A native Chicagoan, Po is the third-generation descendant of Chinese immigrants, Po has lived in the same building in Chinatown his entire life, and the store below was always his family's shop.  His family died in the explosion that caused him to Awaken.  The shop below and the apartment above burned, and Po was all that was left.

Now Po is a martial artist working to perfect his body and mind and be a better man much less a better mage.  He struggles to help his neighborhood but operates within the strictures that Mae provides for the running of Armour Square.
