I grew up in the university city of Nytha Sofia, the younger daughter of two respected academics. I have always lived in the shadow of my 'perfect' older sister, Míriel, never able to live up to the high standard my parents set for me. I was a dreamy, absent-minded child and let's just say school was never really my 'thing'. I much preferred to learn anything school did not teach me, getting distracted by all those interesting books at the library that had nothing to do with my classes, instead of doing the homework I was supposed to do.
 
Aged 73 I discovered my gift for magic after finding a mostly burned spellbook that used to belong to my grandmother after a terrible fire destroyed her house and, unfortunately, her with it. My grandmother was the only person who ever truly appreciated me and saw the intelligence hidden within me. I was all alone, with the added burden of having to become a powerful wizard too.
 
You can only imagine my parents' confusion when they found out it was me, the wrong child, the failure of the family, that turned out to be magically gifted. They have certainly never hidden their disappointment in me and no matter how hard I tried, nothing I could do would ever be good enough. I often found myself secretly agreeing with them that my sister would have been able to make much better use of this gift than me. She will likely become a great academic, like my parents.
 
In my frustration and despair, I prayed to Gwydion, the God of Magic, day after day after day. Untill finally he answered my plea. He would grant me the abilty to flourish, but with it came a hefty price: I would have to give up my soul in return. Facing the possibilty of a brighter future, I agreed to this. No price seemed too high in that moment of darkness.
 
Finally my hard work started paying off and I grew more powerful every day. I studied with several teachers, abandoning them for a new one whenever I felt they had nothing left to teach me. My parents always told me I was foolish for abandoning my studies again and again, but nothing could ever please them anyway. And really, I think staying would have been a waste of time.
 
Of course they were furious when I told them that my final teacher, Nailisrah, was of no use to me anymore. And that I had decided to quit university and venture outside of the city to satisfy my hunger for knowledge wherever I could be found.
