Personal history
Falorin Moonwhisper was born to two very peculiar parents; a brawny, Tiefling mother, and a brainy, Firbolg father. The two of them had met years ago while traveling the world as adventurers and fell in love.
They made their home in a little village close to a forest, where the people originally had a bit of trouble accepting the two, since they were kind of odd - they especially had issues with the fiery Tiefling woman, who had quite the temper. Thankfully, the calm, friendly nature of the Firbolg man won them over within weeks.
Together, they had a son, Falorin, and the people around them soon started mentioning him as a "Firling", a perfect mix between a Firbolg and a Tiefling. His parents didn't mind, they had in fact heard of the name before, and embraced it.
Having been adventurers, they raised their son with tales of their own as well as other people's adventure tales, and he soon aspired to try his own luck at adventuring. He wanted to walk in their footsteps and see the world. They proudly encouraged him, even though they realized this meant they'd one day have to let him go.
With this in mind, they trained him in how to survive on his own, preparing him for the road ahead, trying to make sure he knew enough not to get into trouble at the first possible turn of events.
The only actual big, or somewhat important, accomplishment of Falorin's parents, was that they had once found some ruins of a lost little town, found a rather big treasure hidden there and brought it home to the village. They shared parts of the treasure with their friends and fellow villagers, helping the townspeople to a slightly better life, and everyone was happy and remembered them for it. Big celebrations had been had.
Part of that treasure, they had kept for themselves. Statues of gods and goddesses, some gold, and so on. And a rather beautiful, intricate talisman. It always hung on display in Falorin's mother's private study, and the young boy had always fancied it. In fact, he had always been quite meddlesome and had a hard time staying away from shiny, especially arcane, objects. His parents had had to get rid of most of their arcane items, or at least store them away, once their son had grown tall enough to try grabbing onto the things that held interest to him.
But they had forgotten about the talisman, so it still hung there, in the mother's study, just waiting for someone to get their hands on it. Naturally, as soon as he was able to, Falorin grabbed it. He was perhaps 12 years of age, and tall enough to reach it, his Firbolg blood making him quite tall for such a young child.
As soon as he had grabbed the shiny, arcane necklace off of the hanger on the wall, a voice spoke to him, in his mind. The voice asked him who he was, what he wanted in life, and how he had come into contact with the talisman.
Young Falorin was not an easily startled child and responded with curiosity to these questions, not bothered at all by the fact that he was hearing voices. A true adventurer-in-the-making, his parents would say later on.
Once the voice was satisfied with Falorin's replies, it actually showed itself to him; it was a beautiful Kirin, with horns and a long tail. Falorin was absolutely mesmerized. A shiny, arcane creature! Could it get any better?
The Kirin took a genuine interest in the boy, and together they formed an arcane pact, effectively turning Falorin into a Warlock, as the Kirin granted him some of its powers. The Kirin also told him that if he should ever lose the talisman, he could recreate it by communing with the Kirin for an hour. This excited the boy beyond words, and he bounced where he stood.
The Kirin told him he'd always be there, watching over him, and that in the future, when Falorin was ready, he'd give him a quest. The boy was delighted. Perfect for an adventurer like him!
Once his parents came back home, the Kirin was long gone, and Falorin happily told them everything that had happened. His parents realized that perhaps it had been a slight mistake to have left the talisman in the study, but laughed at their son's enthusiasm, and felt honored and happy that the creature of the talisman had chosen their son, and given him its protection. They knew what a Kirin was, and felt relieved it was a Celestial and not something more akin to a demon that had contacted Falorin.
Over the next few years, Falorin's parents guided him, taught him tips and tricks, and his Kirin patron taught him the language of the Celestials, and by the age of 17, Falorin felt ready to be on his way.
His parents were both proud, and sad, to see him pack his things, say his goodbyes, and leave their home and their village.
Falorin was very close to his parents, and he often wrote back home to them. At one point, his parents wrote him back, saying he was now an older brother - he now had a lovely little sister, named Fanala! He was overjoyed and sent little gifts home to his baby sister. He even went back home once or twice, just to meet her, and the two adored each other.
When Falorin had turned 21, he hadn't really accomplished much in the way of adventuring, but he had managed to pick up a lot of knowledge related to the arcane, and nature. When he found a guild called the Crescent Alliance and was told they were looking for people of his talents, he immediately applied and got a job there, as an arcane researcher.
Happy to be working with things he was genuinely interested in - shiny, arcane objects - Falorin devoted himself fully to his work. He was also sent out on quite a few jobs and quests by the guild and met many different people thanks to this. One of them was Leora Underhill, a fighter. They complemented each other fairly well, as he was the tall, bubbly, meddlesome troublemaker, whereas she was the short, somewhat more rational, responsible one, holding Falorin back from getting himself, and her, into constant trouble.
Falorin is currently 23 years old and is still working for the Crescent Alliance, enjoying his life with them.
