Appearance

Physical Description

Thin to the point of frail-looking, but surprisingly tough underneath. She moves with a sinuous grace.

Body Features

The skin on her upper arms and back is scaly, with a brown/black diamond pattern.

Facial Features

Her face is sharp and narrow, with a thin nose and jutting chin. Her canine teeth are just a bit longer than you'd expect.

Identifying Characteristics

She prefers to shave the hair on the sides of her head quite close, with her shoulder-length hair on top falling over to one side.

Mentality

Personal history

Some 15 years ago, there was a small Yuan-Ti temple in the swamps / marshes north of the city. Townsfolk began disappearing while hunting or foraging, taken captive by the snake people. A band of Adventurers set forth into the swamps to find them, but were too late. Most of the townsfolk had been ritually sacrificed and those that were not had been honored with the gift of ascension to a higher order of being: a Yuan-Ti Pureblood. One such victim was Zemiyah, only a child at the time, and upon returning her to the village, Keledek the Unspoken took her in as an apprentice, for no one in the town would do so.

Education

Raised by Keledek, the reclusive wizard of Saltmarsh, Zemiyah learned the skills of the Wizard, including extensive lessons in History and developed a keen Investigative eye.

Employment

As part of of her education, once Zemiyah was older and more capable, Keledek would send her on expeditions out of town to collect spell components and other odd jobs that were otherwise beneath him. This afforded Zemiyah the opportunity to get to know the people of Saltmarsh and also to sail the high-seas with the merchants and fisher-folk.

Mental Trauma

From the transformation into a Yuan-Ti, Zemiyah’s intuitive emotional connection with others was stripped from her. This is not to say that Zemiyah is not charismatic in her own way. She understands the ‘rules’ that others follow for social interactions and she’s adept at putting forward the appearance of genuine emotions in order to navigate society. But she knows in her heart that this is a facade and, if she could feel sadness, this distance would bring tears to her eyes. If her eyes could produce tears.

Being a Yuan-Ti surrounded by humanoids, there is no real draw for sexual relations. Combined with her lack of any genuine emotional connection, Zemiyah's effectively asexual and disinterested.

Motivation

Human: I refuse to become a victim, and I will not allow others to be victimized.
Yuan-Ti: I am enamored with the culture and trappings of another society and wish to be part of it.

Yuan-Ti: I can feel only twinges of emotion, and it shames me that I am this way.

Yuan-Ti: I have very high standards for food, drink, and physical pleasures. (Keeping in mind that she can't get drunk, and is disinterested in sex. But a warm bath? Hell yeah!)
