Mentality
Personal history
All githzerai are brought up to serve the community. They undergo mental and physical training throughout their life, starting at al early age. The same goes for me. Without meditation and focus, our society would fall apart. In a very real sense for the cities in Limbo. Me, I always had a talent for reading and writing which meant I was assigned work as a scribe. While much information travels throughout the links of telepathy between cities, that information still needs to be written down to be distributed more easily. And to be preserved.
Kalla isn’t like me. He was always a man of action and more at home sparring than spending hours with a manuscript. I’ can’t point to a specific day as to when we first fell in love. We had ended up both meditating and training together, and I helped him with the former and he helped me with the latter. One thing led to another and before we knew it we spent a lot of time intimate in other ways.
Time flows in odd ways in Limbo, but many years must have passed on the material plane since Kalla and I were formally bonded. We have found a lot of ways to make each other happy, and part of that has been our different duties. He has served our race and Menyar-Ag on expeditions while I have helped the community at home. No other duty or love has ever done anything but keep us strong. We were even seeking out the possibility of a child.
Then it went wrong. There was another expedition to the material plane, which wasn’t unusual. But Kalla didn’t want to talk about it, and that was certainly odd but I didn’t think much of it at the time. I did manage to see him leave with a handful of others through the portal, however.
Then nothing happened. Days, possibly weeks and Kalla didn’t come back. I started investigating what had happened and my status as scribe allowed me some access. But Kalla’s group didn’t appear in any documentation. It was as if they had never left and any trace of any of their assignments had been left blank. I tried enlisting some help, but I was told that I was paranoid. Even our friends insisted that it was just an undercover mission and I had to be patient. Order and structure are absolutes for githzerai, but I guess I’m different because I had to do something. Kalla isn’t the only one seeking action after all.
It took some changes in the orders I was writing down, but I managed to get the portal Kalla had used unguarded for a moment. Long enough for me to throw myself through it.
Turns out it’s one-way. I ended up in freezing cold mountains. The portal had dropped me off in a small cavern, but once I left, I had to struggle to find any shelter. This world - it’s so… immutable is the word, I guess. Ther is no one to control the weather and no amount of focus can make the ground less hard to walk on. But I did manage to get to a small village, and with most of the money I had brought, I bought myself some warm clothes.
Of course, no one here has even heard of gith before. I have the advantage as I’m at least familiar with humans, dwarves, and more from texts. The seclusion of my people means we don’t really have others as visitors. And very much unlike githyanki, we will not take slaves.
Kalla… I wonder where you are. If you’re safe. I’ll do my best to learn about this world and gather allies to help you. It’s my turn to be the fighter.
The members of Kalla's troop
Dahena. Captain and an experienced fighter. She was once part of a team that took down an entire Mindflayer colony.
Rhumir. Book-ish monk. His inclusion might mean they expected to encounter ancient artefacts or other mysteries. Or he was just available and assigned.
Lireth. More of a joker and wild-card than other Gith. She'll still be collected on the battlefield, but isn't adverse to pranks outside it. Her good looks let her get away with more than she should.
Gorm. He was originally called something else but picked up this orkish name after living with a tribe for a year. He's a strong fighter and survivalist with an expert understanding of combat.
Brulia. She is unusual in that she uses her psionics to control elemental forces. She can imbue her fists with fire or make the wind fly her towards enemies. Razak was always a bit jealous of her.
Education
Every day since they hatch is training for any gith. A githzerai child has hours of meditation. A teenager will spend their time perfecting both fighting techniques and prepare for the profession they have been assigned.
For Razak, this meant transcribing countless letters until his penmanship was impeccable. Of course, this came at the cost of other skills, such as gardening, anything technical, and much else.
Employment
A Githzerai isn't employed. They are assigned work by those higher up. In Razak's case, this meant transcribing and replaying orders to various places and individuals. He mainly worked with Dazirg, a to the point Zerth who coordinated with other cities for defence. Many letters were in code, but Razak picked up some of it along the way. This might not have been appreciated if Dazirg found out. And it''s quite possible he has accidentally memorised something that would be very dangerous if he figured the code out.
Morality & Philosophy
Razak is a strong believer that the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts. To him, individualism is a way to undermine the strength of a people. Of course, the fact that his strictly collectivist society might have cost him his husband has made him reconsider a bit.
Known Languages
Gith, Common, Primordial, and some Slaadi.
Personality
Motivation
Razak's love for his husband Kalla leads to his current fear. He's an optimist at heart, but right now he's sick with worry.
Also, Razak is honesty tired of being a scribe. He is only happy with this lot because he has been assigned it and believes that is reason in itself to be content. But he really wants to learn how to fight and how to develop his psionics. Maybe if he can do that, the Zerths back home will be impressed and reassign him.
