When the Cassalanter family fell on hard times financially, after a string of unfortunate investments, Ammalia, along with her husband, struck a bargain with Asmodeus. Their older son was doomed, but their younger two children, they were told, could be spared that fate if the couple succeeded in acquiring a large sum of money.
 
The Cassalanters succeeded in obtaining the money through a deal with Omin Dran, and subsequently threw a party on Founder's Day, 1492, at which nearly 100 Waterdavians were poisoned. This crime was attributed to Last Call, resulting in their being wanted for mass murder.
