Personal history
Ovi'Darus was born into a tiny farming village. His father's hands were darkened and worn from a life, like his father before him, planting and tending his fields, raising and slaughtering livestock, and building every aspect of his life with his own sweaty hands through determination and pure will. Ovi, at a young age, was quite curious, always exploring and dreaming of new adventures. While the other kids climbed trees and skipped stones, Ovi dreamed of wizards and dragons. Ovi rose before the sun each day, learning the ways of his father, but he wanted more. In his afternoons, he would sneak off to the town library and read everything he could acquire. He loved reading stories of old and the magical wonders and stories of heroes. He studied the birth of dragons and the history of magic. He imagined visiting the far off lands he read about. He imagined himself to be the heroes of his stories. Sadly, no one he knew had ever lift his village. His family and neighbors were completely content to live out there days in meager farming existence, but not Ovi.
He had always been told of Old Nevin, the town drunk, a bit out of his mind and full of impossible stories of adventure and magic. When he was 9 years old, Ovi decided to sneak to the edge of the village to learn more of this old man and the magics of the world. He peaked in through the windows to see this spry old man, beard flowing down his chin and the massive wide brimmed pointed hat upon his head. As he quietly watched, the old man toyed with vials and glass tubes over fire, smoke whirling through the air. Ovi was fascinated, excited to see what magical concoction was being created by the wizard, just like in his stories. The old man took two mugs and placed down on the table, allowing the steaming, magical liquid to poor into them. Suddenly, far more spry than expected, Old Nevin sprung to the window. "Java is done my boy! Come on in for a sip. Dont lolly-gag out there all day!" Startled but amazed, Ovi came inside and sat with the old man and began asking him questions of every grand thing in the room. No matter how mundane the old wizard had became, Ovi was mystified. Ovi was terrified and electrified by the old man.
The first visit to Nevin's was scary, but as time went on the boy began learning more and more of the history and arcane side of the world he could never have read in his books. After doing his chores each day, he would like to his father about playing with friends, only to take some fresh tea to the old man and hear more stories. After a while, Nevin began to teach Ovi some basic magic tricks. Ovi was a fast and eager learner, always wanting more. Ovi and Nevin became very close over the years. Nevin's familiar, Hogwash, was as attached to Ovi as he was to Nevin. Ovi learned of the tinctures and concoctions Nevin could make and enjoyed dabbling in alchemy as well. After about a year, Ovi himself could perform a few minor cantrips, but he never used these in front of anyone but Nevin and Hogwash. Nevin, after a year, gifted the boy with a spellbook of his own as well as a a small component pouch. He crafted an apprentices hat, blue with stars and even his own staff, that he would have to grow into.
For many years, this education continued in this way, finding the crazy old man to be a suitable mentor and friend. As Ovi came of the age of 16, old enough to take over the family farm, he knew it was time to tell his father the secret he had been living. His father was outraged, demanding he stop his foolish pursuit of magic and adventure. He kept a close eye on Ovi and no longer let him sneak away to meet with Nevin. While he was able to occasionally get away to visit, the old man's health had begun to decline and the lessons came to an end. He would still build friendship with the old man, and help him complete menial physical tasks, but the old man's health was waning. For two more years, Ovi helped care for Nevin when he could, sometimes practicing his magic before his teacher of the arcane. This brought both of them much joy.
It wasn't long before old age took the old man's life. He left a few meager belongings to his one friend, Ovi. Ovi was devastated, but had to hold it all in, as his family could never understand how much time he had spent with Nevin nor the extent of his training. He hid his hat, staff, and spellbook, as well as all of the belongings Nevin had left him. The boring life of farming took over and Ovi was now on his way to becoming his father. One day, a marauding band of orcs entered the town, burning farms and trying to take women and children. Ovi used what he had, cunning and meager bits of magic to help the guard run the orcs out of town, but not before his family's farm had been decimated. The bravery and arcane tricks surprised his family and town. Ovi was a hero, though an oddity. In his own mind, he was on his way to becoming a mage of old, cowering warlords and decimating goblin hordes. No lives were lost that day, but Ovi's life was changed forever.
His parents survived, but chose to move to the nearby city, for a new life. His father opened a butcher shop. His brothers would rebuild the farm, but Ovi took this as his cue to seek out dangers in the world and started out on a life of adventure. He filled the family cart with all of his belongings, the things left to him by Nevin, and a few family belongings that would aid in his journey. Ovi summoned his own familiar, which he also named Hogwash, and set out from town. Where would the road lead him? He was going to seek out magical books and a new mentor, and perhaps some adventure along the way.
Education
Ovi wasnt taught a lot beyond simple farm skills and a small amount of reading and writing. He found his first love by sneaking off the farm to a local library, spending countless hours with his nose in books on history, the world around him, and even stories of ancient arcane wonders. He had a librarian, Joshuhn, who taught him more advanced reading and even some mathematics, as well as leading him to the best books of history and science. In his free time, he snuck off with the crazy old wizard from the edge of town. He snuck off to learn of history and magic. After years of sneaking away to read and learn, Ovi befriended a crazy old wizard, known more for his drinking and rambling than his past adventures. Nevin was ignored and ridiculed by the town, but Ovi found him to be a great friend and eventually his mentor. Nevin began to teach him the ways of magic, even giving him his own spellbook and components. Ovi had no friends his own age, but was always lyng to his parents about going to a friend's house so that he could continue his studies.

Mental Trauma
After nearly 7 years of learning from Nevin, Ovi was turning 16. He was determined that since he was now a man, he would convince his father to allow him to study with Nevin and begin a life of adventure. His father was outraged, forbidding Ovi to go near the old man ever again. Ovi was to be a farmer and his father would take nothing else from his sons. Ovi still managed to sneak away over the next two years, but the lessons stopped as Nevin became very sickly. It wasnt long before he passed away. This was the greatest loss Ovi has ever felt in his short life. Nevin left most of his meager belongings to Ovi, as he had no other family or friends. The second trauma came when marauding orcs attacked the village, burning the family farm, and injuring his father as they attempted to kidnap Jozluhn. Ovi sprang into action, pulling the spellbook from its hiding place under his dresser and used what little magic he knew to rescue his mother and chase the orcs from town, saving many others in the process.
