Sidheag's Story
Sidheag (pronounced SHEE-ak) comes from the Moonshae Isles where she was born and raised. Specifically, her tribe makes their homes in the North Jotunhammer Mountains on the island of Norland. The explanation for why her people came to be so far from where most goliaths in Faerun come from is shrouded in mystery. Legend holds that their ancestors were wrongfully exiled from the Icerim Mountains and a small contingency of these went as far away as they could; even across the sea. Legend also holds that the unwarranted forced exodus was retracted but, by then, Sidheag's ancestors were established in their new home and chose not to return.
Over the years, the withdrawn goliath clans did make contact with the human, elven, firbolg, and other peoples of the area though they mostly kept to themselves. Exceptions were made in response to goblinoid incursions from the south when the goliaths would stand with their neighbors to defend their homes. It was by way of these incidents that Sidheag first came into contact with the outside world. And it was as a scout on the behalf of the people from the upper ranges that she grew to love exploration and to learn to speak sylvan from firbolg companions in arms.
Frostblade Clan's right of passage to "warriorhood" was a tradition they carried with them in their exodus to the Northern Island. It called for the adolescent goliath to undertake a journey to find the perfect stone from which to hew a longsword so sharp, it could carve the ice of the mountains. The bigger and sharper the blade, the worthier the warrior. To this day, evidence of the tradition is notched throughout the Upper Mountains by way of enormous slashes along the glacier's sides.
Sidheag completed her trial not only spectacularly but also nimbly and with grace. It was a winter replete with the harshest of blizzards yet she persisted. The blade she wrought was of the greatest and most fearsome of ice blades. When she presented it to her Chieftain, she declared, "I give you the blade that would stop Fenrir in his tracks! By this, I pledge my loyalty and my sword to you." The act garnered for her new name, Sidheag; "wolf" in the ancient tongue of her people.
The new warrior wasn't the biggest of her people and their warrior groups. She was, however incredibly strong and agile. With the other warriors, Sidheag continued her learning by way of their continued patrols of the borderlands to the goblin lands. She took to this well and, eventually, those around her could offer her nothing new to learn. At the same time, her wanderlust grew impossible to contain with the boundaries of the Isles. She proclaimed to her clan that she would travel and spread good with help from what she had learned and her treasured sword. She left home and sailed across the great sea to a place whose notoriety was such that its name was known even in her tribe's remote homelands. She set off for Waterdeep.
Sidheag's Descriptions and Mannerisms
Sidheag's physical strength is matched only by her strong headedness. Her stubbornness was probably due to her limited education and instruction in the more delicate aspects of life. She was always a warrior and learning didn't appeal to her. As such, she replaces smarts with bull headedness. And even though she learned some at a young age what she should or shouldn't say, her lack of refinement does often lead to uncouth behavior and her sticking her foot in her mouth more than she'd like.
The woman warrior's lack of refinement does serve her well in one regard. Many can draw whatever conclusions about her personality they want but the one thing they can ever say is that she's fake; something other than what she plainly shows herself to be. She may be rough around the edges but she's also fiercely loyal to her beliefs and her people; her clan and their tribe. She's also loyal to the same extent to her fellow warriors, both those from her homelands and those she's encountered outside of these.
Sidheag is also unwaveringly devoted to her belief of protection of the innocent and is deeply offended by unfair fights. Even to the point that she will never slay an unarmed foe. She is also a devout worshipper of the god of war, Tempus. However, even here, her goodness shines through and she believes that the war she fights against evil in her god's name is only necessary in order to achieve the better world she strives for.
The righteous warrior, Sidheag stands more than seven and a half feet tall but weighs in at the relatively lithe 280 pounds. Though she's only seen 23 winters, her silver hair and grey eyes might suggest to those who don't know her that she's older than she actually is. Her pale skin might also do so to the uninformed but it is in keeping with her race. On the field of battle, Sidheag is unwavering. She shoots at her foes with her crossbow but only until she can approach them with Fenrir in hand. Then, she delivers upon them her sense of justice with the blade that could cut through a glacier.
