Personal history

On the outside, Merryshadow is filled with unbound joy mixed with a touch of mischief and subterfuge. That's his recipe for success. Well, most of the time anyways. Sometimes, there is more of one and less of the other.
As long as he can remember, Merryshadow knew that his laugh was infectious. Whenever he got into trouble for pranking his kinfolk, he would laugh it off and others had no choice but to follow suit, regardless of the underlying reason. He's a constant winner for the "The Best Laugh in Rivervale", and is revered by halflings of all ages for lifting spirits even during times of sadness and pain.
 
Yet, something lurks within Merryshadow. There is a need for impulsivity that he can hardly control. For instance, when honey and jumjum juice, he will do what needs to be done to get it in his belly. This is how he learned to embrace the shadow, for Merryshadow is a compulsive pie thief.
 
As he grew, Merryshadow embraced his inner strengths, not just his god given gift of laughing. His father, Sheriff Roglio, would sometimes put him to work keeping track of visitors, encouraging him to practice his skill with stealth. Additionally, he became an adept gambler and would often bust cheaters, which of course, is encouraged in The Fool's Gold, the towns central inn.
 
He earns his coin through exploiting others that were not as skilled at gaming. Never so much to anger another, rather, just enough to keep his belly full and dagger sharp.
 
Let's speak for a moment on daggers. Merryshadow is not afraid to use them, when there is a need. And when he travels into The Thicket, the need is real. Here, while foraging for herbs as an budding alchemist, he would often encounter goblins and on occasion, corrupted wildlife.
 
As a result, he would occasionally find trinkets on the goblins, ones that he would either discard or sell. That is until one day, he found a crystalline doorknob in a goblin pouch. Clearly, it's of some value, and the light glow to it indicated that it was probably magical. It was warm to the touch, and felt comfortable in his hand. He thought better of sharing it's discovery and he has kept it in secrecy ever since, longing for more, but not sure who to share it's discovery with.
