thin and wiry build like a swimmer/rock climber

forward pointing horns that grow from his temples a couple inches thick that taper to fine points, almost like bull horns. right horn sheared off a couple inches from tip.
3ft long tail, rounded and smooth, also tapers to a point with no remarkable features.

Mentality

Personal history

rook was a ding dong ditch baby at the stonebridge orphanage, left in the middle of the night and found the next morning with crows investigating the quiet basket, later he would name himself but the scene outside the front of the orphanage earned him the name Crow for the first seventeen years of his life
Mr Stonebridge runs the orphanage more or less on his own, an older dwarf widower with seemingly endless patience and a heart of gold but a strong work ethic and a will to pass that on to the children. Mr stonebridge was nice enough to Rook/crow and showed no outward signs of prejudice against the tiefling, though the other children were not as kind.
there was one other tiefling, Sazamel aka Saz, at the orphanage, the two bonded fast and were inseparable for their entire childhoods
Stonebridge orphanage was near a small farm and ranch, and the children would often be allowed (or forced depending on the child) to go over and help out and learn about sustainable living and other aspects of farm life. Rook liked playing with the ropes and climbing the barn, not so much dealing with livestock or plantlife
When Saz left, Rook stayed at the orphanage for almost another year before emancipating himself and beginning his search for Saz in central city. not even two towns away from Stonebridge orphanage he found himself getting caught up with the white curtain company, a criminal entourage disguised as a theater company. Rook was taken in and fell in love with the theater and crew before being more or less coerced into joining the criminal side of things, having been trained in all the right skills for thieving
during his time in organized crime Rook accidentally killed one person, a guard at a wealthy manor house, immediately after doing that he ran away and made his way to the city and got himself lost in the crowds.
Rook spent the next few years living on the streets and local youth and community centers, taking criminal contracts to steal, always emphasizing his no killing rule, sometimes working as a stage assistant in local theaters, and otherwise taking odd jobs.

Education

Mr Stonebridge was a very patient and wise man, but he was not very book smart, he bought used copies of many homeschooling books and copied them for the orphans to learn, occasionally there would be social workers who would come to help teach the students giving Rook roughly the education of a highschooler by time he left the orphanage.

Employment

first job, farmhand at local farm. terrible work ethic, hated the smell and the filth of it all, was decent at picking fruit though.
second job. flyman at white curtain company. he excelled here, ropework, being up high in the rafters, and watching theater all at once, practically a dream job.
third job. auxiliary leverager and fast hands on heists, thief and tools expert for the wcc. reluctant to admit it he enjoyed the mental stimulation and the challenge and rush of it all, if only no one had to get hurt.
later odd jobs. exceedingly professional as a sort of emotional defense, works with many people still secretly enjoys crime and begins to realize how horribly unequal the world is and starts taking jobs he thinks might begin to address this issue

Accomplishments & Achievements

Rook isn't convinced he's done anything of worth yet, though he tries his best. he has potentially diverted or slowed down some dangerous schemes by less virtuous criminals with his thefts

Failures & Embarrassments

killed a guard. his first murder, though in self defense, has scarred him.
lost Sazamel. he thinks he should have gone with him.
got fooled by the white curtain company, let himself trust them and then got himself in too deep

Mental Trauma

he may not even realize this consciously but on some level Rook feels unlovable. growing up as an orphan, who wasn't even given a name, and then his only friend, potentially more than a friend, left him behind, and then the white curtain company only showing him kindness to use him, has all left its mark.

Rook is ultimately good, he believes in helping those you can, and standing up for the weak, innocent, and downtrodden.
laws and social norms he is less a fan of. he doesn't really believe the government helps very much, especially not for the price it asks of you.
he is conflicted on killing, once he was staunchly against it in all forms except for the humane slaughter of animals for food. now? after what he's seen, and how other forms of protest and deterrence do not stop those in power? he isn't so sure. he would still rather avoid it when possible but sometimes things have to be done.

obviously he is always searching for Sazamel, he received troubling information from Penny that has given him more determination.
also Rook just likes helping ease the pain of the people in the lower rungs of society.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Rook is good at a wide variety of practical skills, but really excels at ropework, both for climbing purposes and pulley systems and whatever else need be done, has always wanted to try working on a boat.
he is however not that knowledgeable on most fronts, the natural world is largely irrelevant to him, he doesn't know much about history, and next to nothing about religion except some stuff yelled at him about hell and stuff but he doesn't really know how true that is either.

Likes & Dislikes

Likes. the theater! performing arts in general, live plays, musicals, and dances. he likes climbing, rock walls in the gym, abandoned factory buildings, etc. he likes the nightlife of the city, and is always interested in new experiences even if they end up being not his thing he'll try most anything.
 
dislikes. getting dirty or being dirty. institutionalized violence and oppression from the government. blood/gore. hippogryphs, they know what they did, and isn't that fond of most other animals either, but its mostly because he thinks they're dirty, he'll tolerate them on a case by case basis. (bolo's a good boy but he's on thin ice with that slobber)

has a hard time saying no to helping someone even if its a big task.

Marshall/Rumbirds. he took a lot of jobs from here, Marshall was nice and helped him get started with some jobs that had a positive impact. he was actually unaware that a rook was a bird when he joined.

the copper fangs. has only been officially part of them for a few days but a LOT has happened, he feels like he's gotten fairly comfortable with them, and likes their moral outlook

up until recently Rook took very little stock in the dealings of the gods. he knows infernal so he always knew something was real, but he didn't care. he's seen Dotti and Dizzy do some interesting things, and the recent visit to the church of the raven queen got him thinking about some things.
he sort of believes in karma insofar as you do good things for people and sometimes they can help you out in return, but that's not why he does good things for people, he just likes to be useful.
