Early Life
Birth
Khersas was born on the mercenary starship
Red Akitonian on Neth 10, 269 AG. The starship, stationed out of
Akiton, was renowned for its hardy crew and perilous missions.
Early Mercenary Survival
From his earliest days, Khersas was exposed to the harsh realities of mercenary life. His father, a senior crew member, ensured he was schooled in both combat and negotiation. The ship's ever-changing roster of allies, enemies, and frenemies allowed Jarek to interact with a myriad of cultures and species, fostering a natural adaptability in him.
Midlife
Leaving the Red Akitonian
Khersas left the Red Akitonian on 294 AG.
Meeting Skidapa!
Around 299 AG, Khersas met Skidapa!, a Skittermander mechanic known for their prowess in manipulating technology and a cheeky sense of humor.
The Osprey
Recruitment
In the early months of 306 AG, Khersas met Captain
Elara Voss on
Absalom Station during a heated negotiation between two mining factions. When things escalated to violence, Khersas, simply wishing to enjoy his drink in peace, intervened. His skill with heavy weaponry and cool demeanor in the midst of chaos caught Elara's attention. After the situation was defused, she approached him with an offer to join her crew on
The Osprey. Intrigued by the opportunity and sensing a potential kinship with Elara, he accepted. Skidapa! joined shortly after, having been recommended by one of the station's navigation guilds.
Life on The Osprey
Khersas, with his silent nature, was initially a puzzle for many on the ship. However, his dedication to his duties and protective nature earned him respect. He and
Jano Solin, the Ysoki Engineer, formed an unlikely friendship. The two would often be seen in the armory or the ship's mechanical heart, with Khersas providing the muscle for Jano's tinkering. Jano's playful demeanor brought out a softer side in Khersas, leading to many heartwarming moments. Furthermore, Khersas also felt a bond with
Lylia Threx, the Vesk Chief Combat Strategist, over shared combat drills and weaponry discussions. Their mutual respect for each other's prowess made them a formidable pair in battle.
Destruction of The Osprey
During the scouting mission, Khersas was on high alert, consistently checking their surroundings and ensuring the safety of the team. When they approached the rendezvous point and saw
The Osprey ablaze, Khersas' first instinct was to search for survivors, but Skidapa!'s negative life-sign scan quelled that hope.
The sight of
The Osprey, a ship he had come to consider home, burning in the void of space deeply affected him. As the team salvaged what they could, Khersas silently collected a few personal keepsakes from the ship's wreckage, including a pendant gifted to him by Jano after a particularly challenging mission.
After The Osprey
Once they reached
Absalom Station, Khersas took it upon himself to frequently patrol their lodgings, ensuring no further harm came to the crew. His protective instincts in full gear, he worked closely with Lugg Bigman to create a security protocol for their team. Khersas also frequented the black market in search of heavy artillery and intel on potential threats.
Joining EJ Corp
After the tragedy of
The Osprey, Khersas was not driven by raw vengeance but a deep desire to understand what happened and why. This inquisitiveness came from a place of wanting closure more than revenge. The loss weighed on him, but he preferred a calm, analytical approach to a blind rage-filled one.
Cygnus,
Skidapa!,
Lugg Bigman, and Khersas found themselves gravitating towards one another after the incident. They were a makeshift team, tied together by shared loss and a collective need to move forward. Their bond was forged in tragedy, but it was undeniable, and they decided to stick together. With
The Osprey gone and the galaxy vast, they were left without a clear direction. Cygnus, while aboard
Absalom Station found an advertisement for
EJ Corp. Considering their situation and the potential resources
EJ Corp could offer, the group collectively decided to join.
Upon joining
EJ Corp, they were given a brief orientation into the company's various operations. Khersas was recognized for his expertise in heavy weaponry and was given the role of Quartermaster, responsible for maintaining the crew's armaments and gear. The team was assigned a new ship, and as they familiarized themselves with it, they prepared for their inaugural mission under the banner of
EJ Corp.
Though the shadow of
The Osprey's demise still lingered, the group found solace in their new roles. Khersas, in particular, took to his duties with a renewed sense of purpose. While the past was painful, he believed in looking forward, focusing on the tasks at hand and ensuring the safety of his new crew.
