Personal history

Gaerphanis was born into a difficult situation.
 
His father, Minethel, is a bard of some renown, and his mother was a Baroness. Unfortunately, when he was born, the Baron realized right away that Gaerphanis was not his child as he had the hair and eyes of an Elven bard that had passed through 9 months earlier. His mother was able to sneak him out of the castle and into the care of some elves in the town, and those elves eventually were able to deliver him to Minethel.
 
Minethel raised him, and taught him the songs of the bards, and eventually everything else he would need to know as took up the lute and started following his heart. After several years of traveling, he came to the town that he was born in. He thought that he would be able to see his mother, or at the least maybe catch a glimpse of her in passing. But after asking around town, he learned the horrible truth - his mother was slain by the Baron when she returned to the castle after spiriting Gaerphanis to safety. Gaerphanis swore to one day avenge his mother's death, but he knew he was not ready to do so then.
 
Gaerphanis continued his travels, and about a year ago, he took a position playing for a rich merchant in a distant seaport. After a few days of entertaining the merchant and his house, the merchant threw an extravagant party and invited many wealthy merchants and nobles to attend. While he was playing, he saw a young woman, the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. And she saw him. He could feel the connection as he stood on the stage pouring his heart into his songs, and watching that music ignite something in her. During a break, he went looking for her, and found her waiting for him in the gardens. She introduced herself as Roselyn, and Gaerphanis dropped to one knee and pledged his life to her. They courted in secret for several weeks, and then one night a messenger delivered a letter to him. Roselyn had left on a ship, she didn't know if she would ever be back, but she pledged her love to him forever. After a night of drinking and raging, Gaerphanis went to her family's villa, and found a servant that was closing the villa up, the servant said that the father had been accused of treason, and had fled in the night to avoid the charges, no one knew where the family had gone. Gaerphanis still searches for Roselyn everywhere. Which is what has brought him to this city...
