Aware of Fenix's aptitude for magic and his interest in mechanics/engineering, Eznan Jasgrik Onyxblood used connections to send his son to Tezoquipan Academic Repository of Magic. He was the third youngest student accepted and the only one from his family in six generations.
At Tezoquian, students have many professors throughout their four year academic journey, though Fenix built a strong comradery between himself and a few professors as well as several fellow students. Temac , instructed him in historical engineering and challenged him to investigate an artifact that had alluded many scholars before, including himself. Even though he too was stumped by this odd contraption but after more than three years of constant failure, he managed to find a mistranslated in the catalogue that when cross-referenced with the proper codex revealed the purpose of artifact and how to reactivate the Steel Defender .
