Layla is the third Childe of Cyrus, Embraced in 1950 after Ashar graduated to Neonate status.
Layla became a Neonate in 1980, and did something that had only been done a few times before. She revealed that she had already purchased an Embrace with Coin she had earned and saved while a fledgling. Layla never met but one candidate and Eva, a delightful girl that someone had hand-picked and had headhunters take, chose her. Everyone expected a fracas, but none came. Slowly it became clear that Layla had arranged everything.
Back when she was growing up, she was an abomination. Layla had no desire for men or male companionship and instead yearned for female companionship and love. She hid this for fifty years, fearing the rejection and hate that she thought would come first from her family and then from her Sire and Siblings. In 1980 she revealed it at a family "thanksgiving" feast in November. Prepared for scorn, she was unprepared for Cyrus' simple sigh and barely audible "Finally." She completely broke down when she got acceptance and love from her very human-like Vampire siblings. Even Eva, her Childe and lover, was moved to bloody tears as she and Layla were accepted by the Asps' patriarch. Since no one wise goes against Cyrus, the others either accepted or made their peace with it. Thirty years on now, and it seems that that peace has become acceptance as well.
Layla began advancing her own ambitions in 1980 after that November dinner. And in seemingly random directions...but nothing is at it seems with Layla, and some of the older Vampires are beginning to realize it. She invests in businesses and buys information at higher prices than most of her shrewd brood of siblings. She buys real estate through a terminally ill mortal and then sets seemingly unknown mortals to inherit it after her puppet dies. Recently she reconnected with her Sire, but hasn't revealed why.
