(he/him, but really any pronouns)
(Tends to take on the appearance of Generosity the Tiefling, a male, purple-skinned Tiefling with small horns protruding near the top of his forehead. He sometimes dons the appearance of heroes/adventurers in the past to exude their virtues. He sees no shame in copying other people's appearance or changing to new ones whenever he wants.)

Temerity comes from a long line of Changeling ancestors dedicated to cataloguing, preserving, and passing on the faces/likenesses of heroes, adventurers, and the people they struggle against from through the ages. They preserve these stories by writing plays, songs, operas, performances, poetry, etc.
Temerity grew up within the ranks of the Troupe of the First Performance. This Troupe is lauded as the finest and grandest of the Changeling clans who specialize in the performing arts. (Other Troupe's are not located in as popular of metropolitan areas or do not receive the same amount of funding as the First Performance. Also, some troupes are not troupes, but rather more like merchant guilds focusing on creating statues, engravings, etchings, or paintings.)
Temerity committed himself to the arduous task of memorizing hundreds of thousands of faces of many of the heroes and adventurers passed down throughout the ages, eventually demonstrating a notable propensity for remembering minute details and becoming an expert in the history. Once he had proven himself and underwent the Troupe's official rite of passage into adulthood, Temerity committed himself to the acting arts, becoming a well-known actor among the First Performance, other Troupes, and the rich patrons who attended his performances.
After a while, Temerity was approached by a slightly wealthy Tielfing who went by the virtue name of Generosity. They lauded Temerity's performance and saw a gift in them that could be nurtured even further if they dared be brave enough to try. Generosity offered to teach Temerity the ways of the Bard, to harness magic through performance and music, and Temerity agreed. They worked closely together for months, becoming great friends. Once Temerity had mastered the basics, Generosity asked Temerity to join them on an adventure with a group of adventurers to put their skills to the test. Temerity approached their Troupe asking permission to switch from a Performer to a Witness. (In the Troupe, a Witness is a person who seeks out adventure and documents the tales of heroes and adventurers to bring back home to add into the canon.) The vote was split, but the majority supported Temerity's decision to venture forth, 1) knowing they would be unable to prevent him from pursuing his goals anyways and 2) aiding a cantankerous Troupe faction's goals in removing Temerity from the spotlight and love of the city and patrons.
Temerity spent a few years adventuring, documenting many stories of his friend Generosity and the other adventurers. However, this ended when a dangerous dungeon expedition saw the destruction of his party. Temerity, having hung out in the back of the party, managed to escape, the last image seeing his party calling out for his help. But in the moment, he decided that surviving, returning to his family, and telling the tale were more important than risking his life in the face of certain death. So he ran.
Returning back to the Troupe, he was racked with grief for a long while. Wanting to honor his friend Generosity, he approached Generosity's living family members and offered to pay an ongoing tribute price to take on the appearance of Generosity as his main appearance (a relatively common practice going back generations). The family agreed.
To cope with his grief, he decided to tell his friends' final tale through a play which quickly became popular and captured the city's imagination. This brought Temerity's accolades and fame back into the spotlight and diminished the hard-earned fame of other Troupe members who had finally found their success in Temerity's absence. Jealousy arose amongst them, and as such, they banded together to recommend that Temerity be sent to Scardona due to his obvious prowess and survival instincts in order to capture the legendary heroes in the making that resided in the new colony. They roused up enough support to override any of Temerity's objections, and off he was sent to learn new tales far away from home.
Now in Scardona Temerity seeks to make the most of his time documenting as many faces and stories as possible. He longs to return home if possible ASAP but knows he cannot without explicit permission from the Troupe (with the exception of his life being at complete and total risk). For now, he will collect songs and stories both Witnessed and heard from the locals. He performs in the taverns and bars under human and dwarf guises and presents most of his HARE business using the face of his late friend, Generosity.
Temerity tries to stick to Witnessing ethics, which tell him to allow adventurers and heroes to make their own decisions and remain the "main characters" of the antics and fights they encounter. However, seeing as how dangerous Scardona is and how his involvement seems to be necessary in order to survive or craft good stories, he is willing to deviate from common expectations and play a more active role in the party's that he is involved in. Furthermore, Temerity could be intrigued and persuaded to become involved in more seedy or secretive societies in order to gather more interesting stories and knowledge to leverage for his Troupe's and his own gain.
Temerity's biggest challenge will always be deciding between whether to risk his life for his friends (after seeing many friends perish) or preserving his life to return home to his Troupe (of which some members definitely want him dead).

Note: Temerity is not his "Real" name that he was born with. Rather, it is a "use name" that he uses due to Changelings being associated with Fey creatures. His ancestors carry a taboo against sharing their "Real" name with others so as not to give others power of themselves. The virtue name of Temerity came as inspiration from interaction with many Tieflings who served as patrons and friends of the Troupe. Temerity hopes to live up to this ideal.
