Personal history
As a child, Torm was sold to agents of the Shadowborn Hall, an orginization founded at the begining of the age of Enlightenment and located in an old monestary on an unamed island in The Thorns. It was a highly secretive sect known only in rumors, where he was trained to become a powerful guardian and warrior, capable of defeating foes with no weapons except his own hands.
In this role, he was one amongst dozens assigned the group known as 'The Fists', those forbidden from taking part in the use of spells and other magic (to prevent them from rebelling against their masters), and they acted as enforcers, bodyguards, assassins and occasionally test subjects, for the higher ranking members of the Shadowborn Hall.
The sect itself comprised of scholars, scientists and users of arcane lore who researched the utilization of forbidden relics, and ancient artifacts with connections to the shadow Umbraric pantheon.
The leadership of the sect comprised two individuals, and each commanded the loyalty of separate factions within Shadowborn Hall, one which had begun to truly worship and venerate the Umbraric pantheon, and the other which saw the study and research of their relics as mere tools to achieve more power.
Soon, a bloody schism erupted, and the Hall was embroiled in open battle which resulted in its near total dissolution.
Torm fought in the violent clash, participating on the side of the researchers who sought power for its own sake and shunned the worship of the dark pantheon.
Despite their efforts, his side lost, enduring heavy casualties, and the survivors fled, scattered.
The only home he had ever known shattered, Torm fled. Now free to choose his own path, he set out to improve his power as the members of the Hall did, but now in his own way.
He sought to perfect his body and martial arts, and in this endeavor he would seek out powerful foes, tactifully selecting those nobody would miss too much.
Thus he gained the reputation as a strong protector, mercilessly fighting beasts and bandits.
Occasionally working alongside the Pennyblades who often found themselves in similar situations, Torm respects them as individual warriors and fighters, but distrusts larger organizations.
