King Uther is a fierce warlord who has fought for years to keep his throne. He is almost 40 years old and has spent little time doing anything but practicing his skills as a warrior. He is a half-hearted British Christian but also respects the pagan faith and the druids who practice it.

He doesn’t model himself after any ideal — he is making the ideal for others to follow. He is a warrior-king, but a
warrior first. He orders his troops into battle, and leads from the front. In non-warlike matters he listens to his favorites and courtiers, and delegates everything he doesn’t enjoy to his trusted companions. He often makes snap judgments, followed by commands to see that his will is carried out quickly.
 
In his years on the throne he will undertake — and accomplish — one of his great goals, which is to unite Logres under his kingship. Some of his unruly lords pursue private wars against each other, but they just make minor troubles — and troubles make money for his courts to collect. The kingdom of Logres has been united long enough to keep the Saxons at bay, but King Uther’s ambition is seemingly boundless.
