“The Umbras ruled Highport for four generations. It was said that our house was touched by divinity. My great-uncle Mallus was the last to rule, and was a legendary warrior and an accomplished leader. On the Night of the Bloody Spear, his forces threw back the invaders five times before they finally breached the walls. He defended the city to his last breath.”

“My grandmother was the last surviving Umbra. She married a pirate lord and inherited his wealth when he died to a fever shortly after. She raised my father alone and taught him well the history of our house and how Old Highport was before the orcs and goblins came.”

“My father was master of the smith's guild for nearly twenty years. He was murdered, along with my mother, six years ago by slavers when he refused to allow weapons to be sold to them. They stole our possessions and my young brother, and did this (gesturing at her scar). They would have taken me, as well, had I not sought sanctuary in Hextor's temple. Even the slavers knew better than to challenge the Morningstar.”

“He taught me the wisdom of Hextor and showed me the means to restore order to Highport and to return to my rightful place at the top of a new nobility, strengthened by Hextor’s might. I’ve remained there ever since.”

Motivation

Celeste turned to Hextor as a path to restoring order under her house to Highport and the surrounding region. Though her temple was burned and her mentor and fellow underpriests were slain, she still holds on to this goal and thus is not inclined to leave the city.
