Professor Tanaka has a doctorate each in neurology and nanotechnology, both from Tōkyō daigaku after the university became exclusively funded by Arasaka. Her research has influenced everything from the development of smart weapons technology to cyberdeck integration. Most researchers in similar fields would place her in the top twenty most influential minds of the 21st century.
Despite her status as a successful scientist, Tanaka-hakase, has rarely traveled outside her home country. Those who have met her speak highly of her analytical skills, but notably refrain from any words that would show any kindness or empathy. The few students she's ever agreed to teach have been eager to mention the potential others have as teachers. In a rare interview, Tanaka-hakase answered a question about nightlife with a complaint that undocumented drugs make it harder to analyze someone's limbic response.
Very recently, Tanake-hakase was assigned to Arasaka's R&D division in Night City. While she's not fond of the move, her research comes first and she trusts the corporation to have everything else under control.

You have been selected as students for me this semester. I will therefore assume that anyone not already familiar with the field of research is only here because of a clerical error. Ask qustions any first year student should be able to answer, and I will assume that you're here to donate your brain for exprimentation. Welcome and good luck.— Tanaka Ami, welcome speech to students 2069
