Education
Grom's education was rather sparse, with the dwarves of his homeland preferring a more oral tradition and having less focus on established school systems.
He was however in attendance of the Whitebeacon College of Wizardry for roughly a quarter of a semester, after which he decided that the acedemic struction of wizardry was not to his familial strengths or personal inclinations. Something which may have eventually contributed to his general mistrust of wizards.
Employment
Grom's earlier days involved helping in his mother's bar as a young lad, before he tried going to wizard school. After he dropped out of the college of wizardry, he travelled for a little while before ending up on his first ship, on which he would train to become a navigator over a span of 2 years.
Grom was a navigator on a trade vessel for aproximately 6 years thereafter, a career which was ended when a storm left he and his crew stranded on an uncharted island.
Shortly after he was stranded, he ended up in Sanctuary. There he worked as a hero, employed by arcane forces of the gods for about a year or so. During this time, he found his next employer--and lifelong friend--Caldrugan, for whose army he would serve until he became old and infirm.
Upon the 11th day of the month of Pharast in 4724 AR, Grom found himself under new employ as a pirate.
Mental Trauma
Grom has a deep set scar regarding the raw carelessness of wizards, he does not and never will trust those monsters. They are the rats of the libraries.
