The order whose duty is to cleanse corrupted magic and apprehend the mages that pursue corrupting magics.
Jailers were once a proud and noble profession in which the kings of old deployed as agents when news of dark magics did hold whispers across the land. Inquisitors, Knights, Secretaries; the Jailers held positions that allowed them the most direct influence over the populace as to loom over leads and information that would then lead to their prey. That was before the Corruption spread. Rumors spread of the magics of Ardol causing the corruption to eat at the very kingdom that they had served for generations as this disaster caused tension with the current king: King Alistair IV.
For you see, the Jailers were aided by the magics of Ardol Generations ago when The First High Warden of the Jailers, the Great Karimatha of Ardol built the Spire of Barnun with the aid of the angel: Barnun, the Accuser, that she had defeated in a challenge of masonry where her fortress still stands to this day. Her ambition was to build a prison that would house creatures of magic until the end of days and when every magical curse in existence was captured, the spire would simultaneously destroy them all.High Warden Karimatha built the Spire of Barnun was built and nested within the earth far below the surface, as the jailers mined and expanded its cells. So, as the jailers of each generation contributed to their duties, so too did the spire grow as it, to this day, houses many of the fiends and legendary monsters that the jailers had captured. Barnun, Bestowed his magic to all those who had gone through the trials and tribulations to become a Jailer of the Spire. And by his decree all Jailers draw their power from of the spire.
A Jailer is chosen through a ritual of Barnun's Design in which the candidate for jailorship will consume a feather of from the wing of Barnun. If the feather determines that the candidate has the will to carry on the crusade, it will pierce the heart and merge its essence with the host. If the feather determines that the candidate does not have the will to carry out the crusade, the soft feather will turn as sharp as a razor and eviscerate the heart. Ones who have taken the test and pass become Jailers as their left eye becomes marked with a Crimson Sun and their chest receives the Crimson Key, the mark of the Jailers
After the Corruption spread, the King's distrust of the Jailers grew which ultimately caused the King to come into conflict with the High Warden behind closed doors which was the straw that broke the camel's back. Soon after the mysterious conflict, the King declared internally that the services of the jailers to cease, only sparing them from being hunted out of the honor of the order's past service. But the dilemma of the jailer is to express the will to continue the crusade to bring the mages that stalk the shadows to justice and in secret, they continue their work.
