Personal history
Thandrin was born into the Maystar Clan, a dwarven clan traditionally trained with the knowledge and mastery of crafts such as mining and martial combat.
However, Thandrin in is youth learned about an ancient Maystar ancestor, Tholinir, who legend states was a magnificently talented wizard. However, because of an unknown dispute between Tholinir and the then-clan leader, he was exiled, and magic was officially renounced (although not outright illegal). Thandrin decided that he had a talent for magic outweighed his fighting skills.
Thandrin was ostracized by many in his clan for his choice to study magic instead of melee. His knowledge of geology learned at a young age comes in handy with his transmutation spells.
He eventually decided he couldn't stay in the halls of the Maystar Mines any longer due to the need to prove himself to his clan and his family that he could be just as legendary a dwarven wizard as Tholinir. After exhausting their dwarven library at least a few times over, bringing his spellbook that he made with a gem that he himself had mined, Thandrin left at the crack of dawn to start his adventure.
He wandered from town to town looking for work or an adventuring party when not far from home he met up with Gwednlin, a long lost cousin from clan McHammer.
Was hired to a job with Gwendlin for Sildar Hallwinter when they got captured and were taken to Cragmaw Hideout. Himself and Gwendlin both escaped the goblins but were forced to leave the rest of their friends/party behind.
