Originally left his hometown in search of adventure, but almost got killed by some monsters- Professor Kyndreth & Zendalyn saved him. Which, in turn led to him joining the academy to study & essentially become Leto’s glorified intern. About a year later he went back to his hometown to visit some family, and reunited with his childhood friend Rarewind, who had since become a ranger. They went back to the academy & started completing research expeditions together. While out exploring some ruins one day, (a few months after River had joined the academy) he felt a calling to a nearby outcropping of rocks (about 15 ft. high) covered in vines & shrubbery, amongst which laid his hexblade. There was a faint blue, almost star-like glow that grew stronger the closer he got. Feeling compelled to pick it up, he accidentally formed a pact without knowing it & is only just coming to know his patron, who is communicating to him through the hexblade as well as occasionally in dream-like visions (usually preceding an important event). Originally he thought it was just a regular sword, however River outright refuses to leave the house without it; unbeknownst as to why.
