Nes was born in a small village/town a bit away from Edom, to a couple normal parents who worked as accountants/paper pushers. They were surprised, however, when they found a small puppy in her room, that then turned into Nes. As normal, non-magical people, discovering their daughter was a shapeshifter brought up a lot of questions and accusations, and Nes was caught in the middle. Eventually, they decided the best way to deal with it was to ignore it to the best of their abilities, which included forbidding Nes from doing anything that wasn’t necessary for control practice, or telling anyone at all.
They imposed a strict curfew on her until the age of 16 - she wasn’t allowed to be out after dark before then, or be away from home for more than 2 hours at a time for any reason that wasn’t school-related. Of course, the first night the curfew was lifted, circumstances led to Roc, her childhood friend, finding out about her. They managed to keep that secret until a magical storm caused her to get stuck as a tiger, and the two of them were stuck inside of Nes’s house, and her father found them, and kicked Nes out of the house.
Nes and Roc took off towards Edom with what they could carry, courtesy of Roc’s mother, and did their best to set up something in the city. However, a couple of 17-year old nobodies with little to their names don’t really have a good leg to stand on, and Nes ended up getting caught up in some of the seedier people and guilds in the city while she looked for work. Nes could’ve easily taken care of herself without “legitimate” work, but between her fear of being discovered, Roc’s influence, and a dislike of getting something for nothing, she tried her best to keep her earnings as ones she’s earned. Turns out she was really good at her “job”, and those involved didn’t ask too many questions on how, as long as the goal was reached, which worked for her keeping things secret. There were a couple close calls as she learned more about the area and guilds and people in general, but she’s a quick learner, and as her reputation grew, she was able to get more and more selective with the guilds she worked with.
Roc was aware of the basics of her jobs, though she preferred to keep the seedier bits to herself. If a job got really bad though, or really got to her, she would usually tell Roc eventually. Usually after a bit of needling, and only enough to keep him happy. She’s never lied to him about the jobs, though. As the guild either grew or was “disbanded”, or if it had ideals she was extremely against (super oppressive, heavy government influence, record of trafficking and such, etc), she left to another area and group, taking Roc with her. This happened multiple times, and there are certainly things she’s done that she’s not proud of for the job at hand, but does not regret doing what needed to be done for her and her friend to survive. If a job got to that point, however, she’d finish it and leave the guild for a different one.
One job in particular, for a pro-magic Guild, started with harmless propaganda, but steadily grew towards actions against the non-magical community. She wasn’t as involved as others, and didn’t know all of what was happening, but one job was to “shut down” a safehouse for their “rivals”. Nes was backup for the team on that, but once she saw that the safehouse was a med center, and one of the volunteers was Roc… the team didn’t return, and the Guild was shut down the next day.
Eventually, there was an incident on a job, that led to a three-way standoff between her guild and their rival, and a third party that had heard rumors of a particularly skilled individual in the area. Carling managed to get her out of that sticky situation without the fight she expected, and in exchange she listened to his proposal. The temptation of working for a more credible guild was tempting enough for her to finish her current job and leave where she was, and join up with Carling.
It took awhile for her to be comfortable enough with the other members of the guild, and their policies to “come out”, as it were, though it took an ultimatum of sorts from Carling for her to make the final decision. To her surprise, he was completely fine with her, and started giving her more jobs suited for her abilities.
This continued for a couple years, while Roc worked as muscle-for-hire of sorts, until she got to a “high” enough position to recommend he come work with her. This led to the Incident, and Nes's involvement in the quest fort the Glass of Edom.

On the quest for the Glass of Edom, a multitude of person discoveries were made regarding Nes's origin and understanding of that. (Get more specific details from Nick regarding this) She learned that her life and memories were taken when her current self killed and consumed the original Nes, and took her place. Traumatized, she took on Nes's form, personality, and memories, completely shutting out anything that'd happened beforehand and continuing on as Nes. Through discoveries made on the Quest, she additionally discovered that Roc as she knew him was an off-shoot of her original self, posing as Nes's childhood friend to protect her from what had happened. This discovery left Nes broken, and for nearly a year she separated from Mona and Eri as they continued to quest for the Glass, and Nes worked on recovering her sense of self, and coming to terms with what had been locked away. Eventually, the trio reunited and continued their Quest.
