Haunted by visions of battle his entire life, Lucius embraced his destiny as a man of war following Conlack and seeking to defend civilization, and root out corruption in all its forms.
Lucius was born to a blacksmith in Virgam and grew up helping his father at the forge. Lucius displayed considerable talent in the art of forging, and his parents we’re excited for him to carry on the family legacy. However, every time Lucius closed his eye he saw visions of battle, and he never doubted his destiny. When Lucius was 15 a new Captain(?) Octavian Decimus was appointed as the head of the Legion/Guards(?) responsible for his families portion of the city. Decimus was corrupt and immediately began taking bribes. Living in Decimus’ domain was difficult, but they survived and continued living honestly. When Lucius was 18 he enlisted as a legionnaire with a dream of becoming a battlemage. He was assigned to a Legion and was primarily a peacekeeper and saw very little actual combat. When he was 22 he was stationed somewhere else (a galley? Tal Taneal?)… and while he was in this other place he met or fought alongside Valerius Livia, a priest of Conlack. The two became good friends, and Valerius taught Lucius the history of the god and what he stood for. Lucius was at this assignment for 2 years and parted with Valerius at 24 to return to Virgram. When he returned Lucius found that Decimus had become more blatant in his corruption, and was hired by an unknown party to frame Lucius’ family into slavery. In a fit of rage, Lucius confronted Decimus and challenged him to a duel, or just attacked him, and decisively ended the duel by breaking Decimus’ spine paralyzing him from the waist down. Lucius blamed himself for what happened to his parents. He vowed to never let something like that happen again. Lucius turned to Conlack to help guide his hand and actions. However, Lucius struggles to embody the concepts of civilization and justice, when he views his own civilization as being unjust. This has led to him being very interested in other cultures and societies. Above all, however, Lucius hates corruption and views corruption as a blight to be rooted out.
Following the incident, an investigation tribunal (?) was convened and found overwhelming evidence of Decimus’ corruption (or maybe not?), but there was no Trace of what happened to Lucius’ family. Evidence of Decimus’ guilt is perhaps the only thing that saved Lucius from being summarily executed. However, his actions could not simply be ignored, and so he was dishonorably discharged, or banished, or sold into slavery (which he escaped from). Since then he has begun wandering the continent as a hired sword funding his attempts to find his family (although he has very little hope of actually finding them at this point), and as a tool of civilization, upholding justice, protecting the innocent, and removing corruption.
Lucius hates the institution of slavery and views corruption as the largest threat to civilization embracing heavily the “moon breaker” ephitat of Conlack and upheaval of the established order if it doesn’t truly align with the ideals of civilization. This has led him to have conflicted feelings about elves and their historical treatment.
