Mormont began his career working through the low-level government organizations, starting the scroll room and working to a counselor's aide. Being very much a people person, he has always had the knack of talking to people, gaining their trust and eventually sharing things that they probably shouldn't have. This worked to help his rise through the ranks, relatively quickly. While maintaining a bed of secrets has had its good points, it also generally created a lot enemy for him, taking some people down in order to further advance himself. Allowing his arrogance to cloud some judgement, he probably was as careful with the secrets that he slipped. One of city counselors, Jeffry Raichlen, that was fighting to get funds to their pet project to expand the outreach of St Cuthbert (insert different god if preferred) used Mormont as a pawn and eventual scape goat. He was able to trick Mormont into signing papers that began the destruction of popular Pelor statutes in place of St Cuthbert. Riot ensued in the town and they were left with no other option than to fire Mormont in disgrace. He then fled the city before any rumors could make their way to neighboring towns. He found his way to Yartar and began establishing new relationships with the locals, highlighting his successes and overlooking the latest misfortune. One of the members of the Lord's Alliance offered him a chance to join their ranks if he is able to solve a little problem they have been dealing with. Hopeful that this will be chance to get back in the game, he accepted the mission to break up a piracy and smuggling ring on the Dessarin River headquartered at Rivergard Keep. With confidence of success, he marched straight toward the peril ahead.
