The Singing Reaver....a tall tale?

by Dartina Solnack

Duni and I practiced in the Teak Wood this morning. Duni is having me learn to throw my daggers. I can pretty steadily hit a target, as long as it isn't moving. He wants me to try to hunt with him, but I just can't do it. The Everlight gave me the gift of healing, not taking life. I know, she says we must bring "swift justice" to those who are beyond redemption and revel in evil.... but I don't think defenseless creatures count.

Duni left for his shift on the Shield and there was a call for healers to the Near Grave. I left a note for Papa and joined the other acolytes to provide aid. The docks were in devastation - there were pieces of ships and pieces of sailors everywhere. I found one sailor, a woman, still alive. None of my healing spells worked. They were resisted by something... something dark. The Everlight was present but She could not fight whatever afflicted the poor souls. The wounded sailor said something about the Singing Reaver coming out of the fog. At first I thought it was a creature but Papa said it was a story about a ship that sailors told. It feels like there is more to it than that. This woman's last words, her last breath, were to tell me - to warn me - that the Singing Reaver came out of the fog. She wanted me to tell others. It was that important to her.

Lord Darden, the Blackmane, told me to report to the Shield tomorrow morning. I don't know why, but I feel like I should be there. Maybe they are gathering healers to bolster the Shield. I told him what the sailor said. He said something about a demon and a bitch... but I got the impression these were people he knew... Papa gave me leave to go to the Shield... so I will.
