Location: Diad, city
Team: Lore, Midnight, T4RK-5, Aldebaran
Department; Requisitions
Objective:
Thaddius, the librarian of the library in Dyad needed us to retrieve 3 stolen books;
-The Life and Times of the Tetzelworm
-A Garden of Our Own
-An Orange book with a gold lettered titled
Midnight recognized some burn marks that smelled like something he called brimstone near where one of the books was supposed to be. Which led us to a tower owned by someone called Sal. While looking around the building Midnight could not get a good location of where the brimstone smell was coming from. We followed it to the banking area. I distracted one of the staff as long as I could (I believe they had a problem with their bookkeeping. 50% of each persons account withdrawn as interest each month does not make sense when they do not even own whatever they are storing). The Lore took over once we got the manager out here.
Lore lied and said that she wanted to store some precious items in the vault but wanted to make sure they were secure. Stating that we (well Midnight and T4RK-5) were security. I ducked behind T4RK-5 in order to change shape and maybe have a better look around, when Midnight went to check the vault. Once he returned we went to leave under the pretense of getting Lore's "items".
When I changed a teller named Becky saw me and she caught up with us on the way out. She asked if we were stealing and if she could get a cut. I do not understand how retrieving stolen items is stealing up I will have to ask about that distinction to another officer. While Becky, a look legged frog-like woman with very long nails, spoke strangely focusing on T4RK-5, Lore got her to agreed to tell us where Sal might keep important objects he did not want anyone to get at. It was a safe in his room, which meant getting up the building. We needed a key from Sal in order to get to something called the "pent house"? And Sal was out around town.
So all of us went and found him. He was in front of a bakery eating a massive pastry that I do not remember the name for. With some scouting as a deer-shrew I managed to find the key he held. It was on something like a... magic proof chain? Magic resistant metal seems like a problem we made need to look into.
T4RK-5 identified another key on one of the Linkertons. That seemed easier to retrieve.
So Lore talked with Sal, who asked if she was from the Celestial Sea (? must research this later), and had some other strange compliments for her as he agreed to let her join him for a movie. Midnight and T4RK-5 acting as security for her again.
With some quick thinking on Midnight's part he used magic to swipe the key off the Linkerton person and then called Lore's communicator, making a very loud noise. Something about "Boberts Casino and Spa"? T4RK-5 admitted later to that sound also feeling like it emanated from his head. He also mentioned something about needing to put up a "firewall" to stop someone from seeing through him? I beileve Lio is working on that now that the missions is over.
However after we got the key and got back into the building we had to search Sal's room. There were several things of note:
-Midnight found a cloak of Brimstone that would not fit Sal (possibly worn by our thief?)
-Lore retrieve 100 gold coins, thought Becky had asked for 200. Lore said she would "smooth things over later"
-T4RK-5 found written drafts of the construction of a train and railway from the people of Gibbet that Sal seemed to be planning to run through the forest to get to some city beyond it.
And I found the safe! There were 3 traps on it. The strangest one being that you had to be above a certain weight (assuming about Sal's size) in order to not be flung out the window when turning the key to open the door. Personally that seems like rather poor planning since plenty of creatures can exceed that weight, but since someone thought it would be... I think amusing was the word, we all sat on T4RK-5's back while he turned the key. Midnight save Lore from falling off.
Once inside the room, that almost seemed like a personal library, we began looking for the books. I believe T4RK-5 found one. Lore found a strange branch that later she mentioned had a flower with markings on it, though she did not explain further. Probably because her firefly set it alight and when she shoved the branch back into it's case it set the rest of the case, and room, on fire.
Midnight's quick thinking brought up a magical shield to keep the fire away from us but we were still trapped in the room. There were sounds of others above that clearly knew at this point that someone was down here. Lore haphazardly grabbed some more books.
Unsure how else to get out I figured jumping through glass was a bad idea so I used my magic to turn the window frame into vining moonflower and the glass fell away. I was not entirely sure what happened next however as I must have... miscalculated? The entire building turned into a massive vining plant that affected all the steel I was connected to even through the foundation. I could sens the whole structure change. Normally I can only turn something as large as the area of a standard size door in the Silver Thimble. This was not on purpose I wish to reiterate that for this report.
I do not remember much of the rest of the mission however. Lore mentioned that T4RK-5 had a "wicked canonball" and Midnight thankfully got me down out of the tower. I was entirely drained after that, at least someone hid an AP shot in my bag (I am pretty sure I know who) and Midnight was able to wake me back up once on the ground. We took the ferry back, with T4RK-5 walking along the bottom of the canal. Apparently there are several air tight seals are important machinery in that unit that helped him survive the jump, and subsequent walk, through the water.
This ends the mission report.
Of note:
Of all the books we retrieved:
Life and Times of the Tatzelworm
A Garden of Our Own
and Lore's pile:
"The Cat's Meow-steries" by Agatha Whiskers
"Hop On It: A Frog's Tale" by Kermit Greenleaf
"Salamander Shenanigans: A Slippery Situation" by Newt Likelittleguy
"Feline Fatales: A Noir Tale" by Tabitha Claws
"Tongue-Tied: The Adventures of a Talking Cat" by Cleo Pawtra
"The Frog Prince: A Love Story" by Tad Poleman
"Croak and Dagger: A Mystery" by Lily Padmore

I am still unsure if the Orange covered book survived the fire.
