Something New

by Urku Whitmore

While traveling with my companions, I feel myself slowly becoming endeared to them despite their quirks. During our travels through the sewer systems on our search for Floon, we have encountered several enemies. We were even ambushed by some goblins, but managed to defeat them without taking too many wounds.

Afterwards Daara, a bard who also happens to be a divine creation of Bahamut, took the lead and started exploring. She doesn’t seem well suited for melee combat so Igris and I followed, so that we may protect her. She seemingly heard some voices from behind a door, approached she rapt upon the door, and offered her salutations. Hearing no reply, she cracked the door and repeated them. Unfortunately, though not unexpected, it was more enemies. Combat began and they were dealt with quickly by our entire grouping.

A brief while later we found Floon. He was bound to a chair and one of his captors, an orc or one of their ilk, was casting magics to turn his hands into lightning. Poor Floon was battered and charred. We all leapt to action immediately. Several of our group was began casting in the initial moments of the battle. Scorch started the volley by casting fire at the finial occupant in the room, some sort of squid faced monster. It was something that

I’ve never laid eyes upon, nor something that I would care to encounter again. I’ll offer my prayers to Tymora to keep it that way, but I would be unsurprised if Beshaba had other plans.
Raynar was quick into the fight, swift he ran to assist Floon and with a great flourish he attacked the orc. He stabbed with the rapier and injured his opponent a fair amount.
The squid creature seemed the greater threat, so as quickly as I could I rushed for the monster while Igris was quick on my heels. A great slash of Samuel’s sword wounded the beast, but it was sorely short of a fatal injury. Igris inflicted a similar wound.

I felt a throbbing against my mind, which I was quick to shove away, still I felt great pain from it. Looking around I saw my compatriots fighting the same struggle, but I saw many of them fall to the ground…the lifeforce beginning to ebb. Most of these people are quite young. Just beginning their journey through life. All of them less than 10 winters by Kobold reckoning, and all of them yet to have left their mark or make and difference in the world. Then I remembered Samuel.

I felt a great rage welling inside of me. THIS HAD TO END NOW! And quickly.

I remembered my teachings and I called upon the Lord of the Northwind. I recited my oath that I made to him. Samuel’s blade began glowing, seemingly a solid pilar of light. I steadied myself, focusing my rage, whilst feeling Bahamut’s holy power coursing through me. I swung with all my might, and beyond all odds…I connected. My blow was so mighty that the creature was not only slain, but completely obliterated. A dragon! A platinum dragon appeared from the pillar of light and devoured the tentacled monstrosity! All that was left was a shadow on the wall and a pile of ash.

I commanded Igris to assist Raynar in slaying the orc, which he swiftly dispatched. Igris is always the reliable one…I should get him some food…

Those of us who still stood tended to out wounded. Every recovered. Thank Bahamut! The battle ended as quickly as it began, and we made our way back to the Yawning Portal.

This day has given me much hope, and even more to ponder…
