Thankfully sleep was not the worst. We are to see the mayor today, and I hope he does not ask for much in exchange for his endorsement. If I can try and be the one to do the talking everything should go smoothly. Regardless! I must put on a good face! We are speaking to a birdfolk in a position of leadership, they will likely have some high standards and I always love an excuse to use my perfume.
That could have gone immensely better. I do not blame either of my companions, they are both kind and helpful people. The mayor seemed to be a highly stressed man, pacing like crazy. So, when it was asked if we were adventurers, Collina answered before I could speak affirming him. He was so excited to have us take on this quest to save a corvum girl who had gotten lost in a cave in the swamp. I tried very hard to keep my frustration and concern off my face, I am not a fighter. We took some time to gather supplies and look into some of the books here, I tried to find books on fighting but there was nothing I could hope to learn from these my brain just doesn't work this way. Faye came to my rescue again though, she can be a bit harsh and clipped about important matters but I think it's necessary. She offered to make sure I have plenty of time to practice my sword fighting while we are on the road and suggested I find people to practice and spar with while we travel.
We have set off for the cave, and after a short consideration everyone decided it best to take the quickest path. We all knew the risk, so I don't think anyone was too surprised when we came across some slimes to fight. The first went down with what felt like relative ease but the second one I fought left me feeling nothing but shame. Getting both swords and my foot stuck in it? I know I am not a strong cervan, but I can't help being embarrassed that I needed so much help from the little chickadee.
Of course the cave was laden with even more slimes, they were falling a bit easier ( I think) but still wearing us down. After we dispatched 5 of them that dropped down and went after poor scrap, Faye suggested we take a moment to rest and recover. Everyone got in a bit of a nap and a meal and we felt revitalized to keep going. Our next possible path was awfully rickety and Faye was understandably worried about continuing forward, but Scrap did some amazing work fixing it up with the sticky slime remains he had. Unfortunately, it didn't last long enough as Collina managed to bring it down on us.
it. got. worse. I was actually eaten by the big slime that trapped that corvum girl. Do you have any idea how terrifying it is to be suspended in a living creature, being unable to move or speak, and then watching one of your friends arrows stop inches from your face?! I was terrified!
We managed to slay it eventually but my goodness was that awful. We got the girl back and the mayor was grateful. She was a rather passionate one when it came to learning about slimes. In a tipsy state I kept making her scraps convo circle whenever it seemed like it was teetering out. Not sure why I found it funny but I digress. We should hopefully get our letter and be on our way to Alderheart very soon.
