Bravery

by Conradus Stonero

Yesterday I was not brave. I followed orders, I ran from a foe when I should have stayed and fought. That was not bravery. When running to the market district I did not once think to run back to the Saint's aid. That was not bravery. When we were nearing the end of combat with Tamamo no Mae I did not think of my friends wellbeing, only of her defeat. That was not bravery. I told Tao Ren about our groups betrayal of her trust, when I knew we were in a position where she could not really punish us. That was not bravery.

Today we returned to that floating isle where I had thought it was all over and we had finally won. We figured the riddle was for someone to die (thank Tyr we got that correct). Genji was brave in trusting us that this was the next step even though he was not present in our exploration. Benkei was brave in trusting me to bring him back as he was the one who assumed the mantle of death. Sora was brave in ignoring the groups decision and deciding it was her life that shall be sacrificed. I just stoodby and watched. That was not bravery.

Now with wherever that gateway has transported us to we stand face to face with a goddess, demigod, or some other definition of ancient power (I do not really know). For better or worse I remembered the "fairytale" that was told to us. I do not know if I am speaking to her out of fear or bravery but hopefully I can convince her we truly are not the threat she assumes we are.
