( The sound of static echos from the device, before it crackles to life. The steady blipping beep and the whirring of some fan forms the background of the recording. The sound of something wooden shifted, a door opened, and the swift rustling of cloth, muted but getting louder. A breath... )
Medical Log: 280708.4
Our newest subject appears to be in good health. Female, mid to late twenties. No major damage from the acquisition. I'll have to compliment the boys upstairs, it seems they can learn.
Medically speaking they seem a good candidate. No allergy's to speak of, blood work came back clean, so don't have to worry about addiction. No signs of neurological decay, and while the blood sugar is a little high, it's not a risk. Bone marrow is a little thin though... Here.
( A pen can be heard, scribbling away as the sound of cloth shifting continues.)
Put her on that for the next three days. Hold her steady please, need to check her eyes.
( The shifting of cloth is replaced with a brief strained metal sound, just at the edge of perception the muted and muffled sounds of someone struggling against a gag heard )
Excellent. Now just... Come now. Hold still... Really! Be still. You'll only hurt yourself if you keep this up understand? Good? Good...
... Good girl. Now, I need to check your teeth. I can either do this with you conscious or not, understand? Be a good girl and say "Ah."
... Hmm. You need to brush more. You. Get me an x-ray. Need to see if there is any lasting damage. Shouldn't be an issue, but new products require pristine subjects. I refuse to have my work squandered because of a faulty subject, understand?
I will see you in three days time 2317. I hope everything comes through clean. End Log.
( The sound of an electric zip can be heard, the device rolling over to the next log. A light electrical humming can be heard in the background, the sound of someone with an assisted breathing device nearby. )
Medical Log: 280711.3
Subject 2317's vitals have been cleared. I've been busy working on the new dosages, and this should be quite spectacular. I tell you dear, I've outdone myself this time. You would not believe the money that had to be spent to get some of these samples! I swear, I'll be seeing red on my ledger for weeks.
That's not important though. As long as the end product is good, it's all worth it in the end~ After all, my prior projects were too short sighted. Too shortsighted by far!. Nanites left in the blood, bah. Change them on the genetic level though, set them to be changed inexorably and indefinitely? Well, you can have a product that can produces more product! Simplicity itself.
Now then. Nurse, prepare the log. I want a recording of this.
( Fortunately, the device only is equipped with audio records. Instead, it simply rolls over to the next log, the idle sound of a scratching pen and ceiling fan droning along with that same voice. )
Medical Log: 280713.8
It's been two days since Subject 2317's surgery and I do admit, I wish progress was a little faster, but I don't want to put the poor girl through too much of a system shock. Any faster and her immune system would start to overreact and destroy itself. A few extra weeks and I might have been able to fix that, but progress marches on to it's own beat.
Either way, yesterday we had her moved to her containment room. Far easier to monitor her now, and with enough space to move about and exercise, she'll be kept in good shape. But that's not what I'm talking about today.
No, her limbs started twisting today! Oh, it's so beautiful, I wish I could attach images to this. Impacted legs will be all the rage I tell you. Granted, she has certainly been putting them through the ringer! Had to call in security two times today so she didn't hurt herself. Limbs in that state need to be worked, but are fragile! Wish they would understand.
Either way, attached are the diagnostics I could get for her projected growth. Make certain she eats enough. Her biology is still fragile right now, so nutrition is key. End Log.
(A sharp blip, the next log rolling over, the sound of muted yelling heard in the background. That quiet voice now frustrated, stiff and angry)
Medical Log: 280714.9
Apparently my message wasn't clear yesterday. I don't care if she doesn't want to. She must eat. I will not risk this project just because she won't stop get enough nutrition. I need her healthy and compliant, understand?
Speaking of, strip her. If something goes wrong we'll see it on her skin first. Besides, her scales will grow in soon enough for her modesty. And I will not take no for an answer, understand?
Good. Now good day. End Log.
(Another blip, another log. The sound of some liquid being poured, a tired sigh sounding before the voice begins.)
Medical Log: 280719.13
Bones. If I could just have bones grow faster, what I wouldn't do. The serum is still stuck on her damnedable bones! Subject 2317 is proving... a valuable learning experience. One would think that modifying the structure of a body first would be wisest. It provides a solid framework for the rest of the body to form from. It's a solid thought. It works fine, and if the body isn't changing it's size too much, it's a wonderful design.
I forgot though. She's not staying the same size. Twenty, thirty percent? Working from the bones works great! They retain the same general structure, there is maybe half a day of waste time as it reworks the bones once the rest of the form is modified, and you are golden. 2317 is not growing thirty percent. She is growing eighty percent. And not even vertically.
You would have thought I'd have learned this from the wings debacle, but no. No, even my genius is limited it seems. There is nothing beautiful about the fleshy mess of a subject, towering and looming. I swear, if she doesn't stop screaming and bawling I'll have her fitted for a muzzle.
Either way, where was I... Yes. Bones. Her update. Well, the skeletal structure of her wings has formed quite well, though the membrane betwixt them has yet form, as well as most of the protective ligaments, so they mostly hang behind her. The serum finally started work on her spine, so she no longer can stand upright, so there's less injury to her forelimbs now. The muzzle is coming along, though without scales it's rather strange to look at I admit. Too much was worked on with the spine, so nothing has begun of the tail yet.
Yesterday she started trying to starve herself, so I had to work on some emergency fixes for that. Pathetic, I know. Something like her forcing my hand. Still, that won't be a problem now.
The guards gave me a suggestion though that I do think I'll have to take. The muscle mass and tone that was set to be worked with could potentially cause a problem if she seriously got out. So, a muzzle and chains have been fitted to her, and set in the room. Sometimes the threat of the punishment is enough after all.
I hope next report will find me better. End Log.
(The log zips for only a second, a grumble heard ahead of the warnings blaring in the background. The sound of a multitude of voices layered over themselves, the sharp snap of a TV being changed echos.)
Medical Log 280724.
My guards have proven themselves prescient. Subject 2713 made an attempted escape. I hate to do this to my successful tests, but measures must be taken. She has been recaptured and her bones set in place. The chains and muzzle will be used, and no further medical care for her wounds will be given.
Actions have consequences. End Log.
(The log zips once more, the device churning for a few moments before it resumes with a giddy laugh. A bit of light chatter can be heard, indistinct murmurings throughout as the sound of.... something low. Muted whimpering )
I knew it! I knew it I knew it I knew it! Ha! And they said it was a stupid project to begin with! Idiots! No... No. Oh my, isn't that precious. Just... precious.
Oh dear. Where is my mind. Forgive me. Ah, Medical Log 280807. Ah... 23? I think? It's been a day.
But, my. So sorry. Subject 2317. Yes. She is... performing admirably. Three days back her scales started to grow in. The doctor they report to told me she was quite distressed by it, but with a few files and an hour of work and she helped the subject remove the rest of her human skin, and now she's a glistening and gleaming specimen of ever there was one. Honestly, you think she'd be more grateful.
But, that's not why I made this log. No, it is her Physical Evaluation today! I always hate how long these take to get going. Most don't even live this far, so it's a joy when they do manage to last this long. Next week we'll purge the rest of the nanites in her blood too, so this data might be the last we get. But I do say, I've outdone myself this time.
In terms of strength, her body is par with some of the greats. I do wish I could properly limit it so the subject can't abuse it, but enough fear and show of force will have her bowing either way. As for her wings? Wings for decoration are easy to create. Wings for gusting and gliding? Nearly as fine. Wings for flight? That's always a struggle. And here, this subject managed it just fine! Well, she crashed sure, and I know for a fact that part of her wing is bent wrong, but she managed it! Wonderful!
But, that's not why I'm recording this. No, after her crash and her bones set in place to heal, we started the exotic tests. Considering some of the DNA I put in, I figured she'd have the ability to glow in part but this? This was unprecedented! She wove light. Twisted it around herself and about like it was some sort of fabric! This is marvelous! Though, I will have to reprimand the guard later.
Just because the subject looked like a human was no reason to shoot them.
