Festival, or opportunity to impress everyone with my divine strength & skill?

by Fray Sidurgu

From 12/04/2021 (First session of the Adventure):

I arrived in a village called Sandpoint, thinking I could rest there before setting out again early the next day. It was turning out to be more difficult to a way to prove I was destined for great things. I swear I will return home to Mendev soon with tales of my many heroic accomplishments and women from near and far will be so enamored with me that they will follow me home in such large droves that I will have to fight them off.

As I neared Sandpoint I found it to be much more lively than I'd expect for it's location and population. As it turns out I was just in time for a festival of some sort! It was already under way. Although, I'd like to think that I am lead by divine providence, this time I saw this as merely a chance to show off my many talents.

I first participated in a fishing contest and, of course, I won. Bringing in the biggest catch of the contest. I then found myself set-upon by a very large cat person! They were surprisingly fast for fat they was. Since they didn't say anything to me, just grunted and breathed heavily, I found this very annoying and I didn't want to share my fish. I was eventually able to lose them in the crowd.

I also won a game they called "Goblin Toss", which was simply a bean bag toss. The other games appeared to be rigged. I'm sure I would have won them all if someone hadn't been throwing them for a profit of some kind. I met a couple of locals that participated in the games.

Inuyasha Higurashi seemed okay even if he clearly is demon blooded. But his friend, Cyanne was a bit annoying. She walked around and acted superior most of the day. Didn't even want to participate in most of the games. Must've thought she was too good for it. I even heard her saying how much she hates the guy who ran one of the games.

The gnome named Nisk and his game involved mostly chance by picking between potions. One would be fun and entertaining, the other would have some temporary bad effect. All seemed to be in the name of fun to me, but as I was standing near the Cyanne, I hear a lot of negative comments along with a sneer that lasted till it was over.

I find the local wizard to be suspect, however. She was not forthcoming in his answers and seemed to be hiding her intentions, even in these silly games that are merely intended for fun and to sample the local food and become acquainted with the establishments and their proprietors. There's just something about her that I don't like. Maybe it's just her face. Hah!

The best part of the festival was the talent show. I was pleasantly surprised at the trio of bards. They called themselves the Beastars. I was surprised to see that the tubby cat was part of the group.

We ate at a tavern called The Rusty Dragon. Inuyasha and Cyanne mentioned it was the best place to eat and stay, when I asked around earlier. As we neared the place, it was clear where it got it's name. There was a large metal dragon covered in lots of rust perched atop the building. After eating I decided that I was impressed enough to book a room. Luckily they were able to find me a room, even with the influx of visitors from out of town.
