The Temple of Blood

by White Apparition

Something is wrong beneath the city. I might have sensed something, but it wasn't really on my radar so to speak. But Dr Strange set us to the task of discovering what was behind the dark foreboding that he was clearly aware of...and was growing concerned over.

I was late to join the team, missing their encounter with the Doctor, and then Squirrel Girl. When I had arrived the rest of the team had just encountered, and handily resolved, an encounter with vampires, and then released some victims from captivity.

I joined them as they explored beyond the sewers where they defeated the fanged undead, where one of them had hinted that there was some kind of Temple of Blood beyond.

Beyond this part of the sewers we entered some kind of cave tunnel…it descended into darkness lit only by periodic flaming torches. We soon found ourselves entering a huge cave. Where did this come from? I did not know this was below the city!

Ultimately we found the source of the great concern. The tunnels opened to a large underground cave with an ancient and very large ziggurat that reminded me of the ancient Aztec or Mayan structures of old, complete with flying serpent motif.

So we with caution and stealth began to enter and explore this temple. It seemed rife with traps, and we triggered a few, gathering small golden statues here and there that seemed to be keys we might need later.

We also met a bizarre combination of agents as well. In one room we entered, was a woman named Viper, an AIM agent, and two Hydra agents. It is from intimidating them and making quick work of their defeat that we were able to learn that further into the depths of this temple we would find some kind of blood ritual in progress.

But really? Vampires, AIM, and Hydra all working together? So strange and so troubling!

And when we got to the bottom of the temple, where some kind of vortex was surrounded by major villains! Zemo and Zola on one side representing Hydra, MODOC showing for AIM on the opposite side...and Dracula himself with a couple of his vampire henchmen.. Our presence is discovered by Dracula, and he decides we aren't worth his time, so he vanishes, apparently already getting what he wanted. The others start to vanish as well, leaving behind someone to keep us busy while they exfil. Taskmaster!
