With her bow in hand and an arrow nocked, Aoife deftly stole through the underbrush, weaving between trees and rocks. She was on a nighttime hunt, and Zephyr was hot on the trail of some giant rabbits. Suddenly, as she approached a clearing, she lost sight of Zephyr completely. She called out to Zephyr, but there was no response. Somehow, Aoife felt that the only way to go was forward. As she entered the clearing, there was still no sign of Zephyr, but she saw what looked like a figure dancing in a moonbeam. As she drew closer, she could see that the figure was that of a beautiful, naked Drow woman, and immediately, she knew who it was.
"This is a dream, isn't it," she said to herself as she rubbed her eyes.
The woman - the goddess Eilistraee - turned to see Aoife, smiled, and beckoned her over. Aoife approached the goddess. The dark maiden's smile grew bigger and she began to dance again. When she finished the dance. She held out her hand to Aoife, as if to ask her to join her.
"Dark Maiden," Aoife addressed respectfully. "Goddess of night and dance. I have seen you so many times, and yet, I still don't understand. What is it that you want from me?"
Eilistraee looked at Aoife quizzically, then began to dance again. After a little while, she held her hand out to Aoife again. Aoife looked up at her, looked to her outstretched hand, then looked up at her again.
"But...I don't know how..." Aoife murmured, embarrassed before the goddess. Eilistraee frowned in disappointment, then smiled again and booped Aoife on the nose. Then she gracefully danced off into the darkness, with the moonbeam following her. The lighting returned to normal for a clearing in the woods, and Zephyr returned to Aoife's side. Confused, Aoife quietly walked off into the darkness with Zephyr.
Aoife awoke in the middle of the night. It was still early enough for the barflies and partiers to still be out drinking and carousing, but staying with the Griffon Guard had her on their regimental schedule, and she was used to going to sleep with the setting sun anyways. She sighed and rubbed the back of her neck. That was the fifth dream this month that the Dark Maiden had visited her, and they were becoming more frequent.
"I don't get it, Zephyr. What could she want with me? And so urgently it seems? I know I've been trying to get through to that prisoner, but is that really all? And what do Gwaeron and Mielikki think? I haven't seen Mielikki in such a long time. I know she's a distant and busy goddess, but she must be REALLY busy now." Zephyr just gave her the steely look of a hungry eagle, as if to say "if you're going to wake me up in the middle of the night and talk at me, you could at least give me something to eat." Aoife gave Zephyr a hunk of partially dried deer meat and thought for a minute. She stepped outside the barrack that she had been staying in and looked toward the lights of the city. Then she looked back to Zephyr.
"Maybe...she's awake?" Zephyr looked back at her. "What am I saying. Of course she's awake."
