Voodoo Dice


The book has the ability to potentially alter or control a creature's behavior. As the book learns, it receives Voodoo Dice.

Actions



Teach Book


As an action, you can knit a hair, fiber, scale, or other small body piece to the doll on the book - teaching it about that type of creature. The book receives a Voodoo Dice of 1d4 for that creature type. When using the book's abilities, the Voodoo Dice changes using this formula: 1d4 > 1d6 > 1d8 > 1d10 > 1d12 > 1d20. Each time you reach the maximum dice (d20) for a creature, your dice count raises by one (2d4, 2d6, 2d8...) (to a maximum of 5 dice) to all creatures in the book, effectively allowing you to use the book's abilities more than once per long rest. You can not use two dice at the same time.

Read Book


You can do this a number of times equivalent to the Voodoo Dice dice count, per long rest (1-5). As a bonus action, you can read a paragraph in the book, resulting in one of the following effects:

Train Book


You open the creature type's page in an attempt to control a willing creature's body in order to train the book. You roll the current Voodoo Dice for the creature type and add 5, defining the DC. The creature must roll a Constitution Saving Throw against the DC. On a successful save, the creature takes 1 psychic damage, and the Voodoo Dice for the creature type gets upgraded to the next die. On a failed save, the creature must obey a single word command you write in the book, for a maximum of 1 minute, and the Voodoo Dice for the creature type gets upgraded to the next die twice (1d4 turns into a 1d8).

Control Mind


You open the creature type's page in an attempt to control a creature's mind. You roll the current Voodoo Dice for the creature type and add 5, defining the DC. The creature must roll a Wisdom Saving Throw against the DC. On a successful save, the creature takes 1d4 psychic damage. On a failed save, the creature fully believes a short phrase you write in the book, for a maximum of 10 hours, and the Voodoo Dice for the creature type gets upgraded to the next die.

Control Body


You open the creature type's page in an attempt to control a creature's actions. You roll the current Voodoo Dice for the creature type and add 5, defining the DC. The creature must roll a Constitution Saving Throw against the DC. On a successful save, the creature takes 1d4 psychic damage. On a failed save, the creature must obey a short phrase you write in the book, for a maximum of 1 minute, and the Voodoo Dice for the creature type gets upgraded to the next die.
