Traveling salesman - Orvil Nonuz

Born into aristocracy of the Nonuz family in Himora, the lineage gained significant wealth trading <Iron? Some other magical resource?> from the family owned mines in the Boaltir mountain range. For ages these mines ran well, and allowed the family to be the main trading force for <the resource> in the region. This allowed the family significant wealth that sat them among the top families in Himora.   Orvil grew up in endless banquets, gala balls and soirees, he grew quite fond and familiar of the ways of the aristocrat. Clever twists of the tongue, a twitch of the eye, he learned how to lie and how to spot a lier among his peers.   He and his family became mutually dependent, both formally and informally with several other families. Some of the main families were following houses:

  • House of Utrone
  • House of Glun
  • House of Lildrild
  • Of these houses, Orvil became close with: Amun Utrone (M, human, -2 years to Orvil) Em Glun (F, half-elf, +34 years to Orvil) Tharoru Lildrild (M, human, +8 years to Orvil)   Around his sixth birthday, Orvil had an obsession with the mines and, despite his parents displeasure, was taken to them for his birthday. He got an overly protected guided tour through some parts of the mines, he saw a small glimmer something down a small gap in the lower wall. In a split second, fueled by pure curiosity, Orvil slipped between his guardians into the small crevice.   The drop was deeper than he expected, he tumbled and slid deeper down the tunnel than he could initially see. Shocked and scared, crying, he reached out in the pitch black darkness around him. Concerned yells came from above, though their lights could not reach him. As he blindly touched around him, his hand made contact with a small metallic contraption, which began to hum and shed a dim light around him. Scared at first by the sudden movement, all of his fear was quickly replaced by wonder and curiosity of all these remnants of mechanations around him.   For the next couple hours, as his guardians and the miners frantically tried to open a pathway towards him, Orvil kept surprisingly calmly stating that he was okay, the whole time. As the miners first reached Orvil, they saw him sitting there, peacefully playing with these curious devices, if not a little scraped and wounded.   Through the rest of his upbringing, Orvil would spend any downtime he had studying the ancient tech and machinations, slowly learning how these devices used to work and replicating some of the simpler ones.   The curiosity would not let Orvil rest at certain nights. As young as he was, he would sneak out of his bedroom to get to the shed where most of hist trinkets were being kept. Here, he played and investigated to hist hearts content. Only to get an earful the next day by his mother as he, obviously, didn't sleep again last night.   One such night, Orvil encountered a young kid, Vesper, on the streets of Himora at night. Taken aback slightly, Orvil ran straight away and into a pole. Falling to ground with a bloodied nose, he was surprised by a friendly touch instead of a threatning one. Slowly but sure, as meetups would continue over the years, Orvil grew a bond to Vesper that only grew stronger as time progressed.   Then, growing well into adulthood, he was preparing to take over the family business until tragedy struck. A series of seemingly unrelated troubles struck the mining operations. This left all mines inoperable, and the major income for the Nonuz house dried up. This was untimely followed by Percy Nonuz, Orvils father, making a series of poor investments, depleting the final reserves of the house further.   With eviction notices and debt collectors high on their heels, the family made a desperate plea to the other houses of the aristocracy. They'd helped each other out before through tough and troubled times, "Surely, ", Orvil thought, "they'd help us as much as we've helped them". Yet, instead, all they found was a cold shoulder at their late partners doorsteps. Leaving them to fend for their own.   Several years later, they found themselves at the outskirts of the city. Wrecked by debt and disease, they found refuge in a small inn ran by Tsia Wie (F, human, 76 y/o) who took pity on them and offered them a roof. Orvil, soured by his experiences had no means to regain their lost wealth saw opportunity in the skill he acquired studying these ancient devices.   He began selling his trinkets and small creations, mostly novelty, frequently overpriced and over promised he started accruing a living wealth (and several enemies). Allowing his aging parents to barely get by on a day to day basis.   Still carrying himself with an aristocratic cadence, Orvil travels the lands to find new customers (or suckers) to sell his wares (or scams) to. Though burned before, his ideals of friendship and mutual reliance remain only strengthened for those he cares about.   Parents:
