Pigeon the Pigeon

A familiar like no other, Pigeon the pigeon is quite possibly the most unique companion ever. Featherbrained though noble-hearted, Pigeon may not be the most legendary of beasts but he's sure no chicken.

Burning Belief

Pigeon is a pigeon, there are absolutely no two ways about it. There is not even one way about it, he's just an ordinary pigeon. A bog standard bird. A rat with wings. And yet... In that tiny fuzzy brain no bigger, nor brighter than a peanut, lies a known fact. Immutable beyond physics, magic or common sense, pigeon knows that he is a phoenix. He's wrong of course, but he cannot be convinced of it. Not that anyone ever tries or even cares.

Proud and almost Noble

Whereas most familiars bond with their counterparts in a manner either of mutual respect or one-way servitude, Pigeon is a bird of another feather. As a phoenix (in thought, at least, and, in fact, at absolute most), Pigeon is no mere pet. His rational for bonding with such a mortal companion is one of sheer good-willed benevolence. It is an honor for this companion to have Pigeon at their side. A boon of the most generous aspect. Whilst he will follow commands and care for his ally as would any loyal familiar, as far as Pigeon is concerned, he rules the roost.

Valor Beyond Reason

Pigeon is not build for action, phoenixes are and this disparity is not without its consequences. If called or compelled to combat, Pigeon must make a DC11 wisdom saving throw at the start of his turn.

• On failure, Pigeon must attempt to behave like a true phoenix
• Roll a d4 on the Phoenix Table to determine the action Pigeon takes
• All these attempts are made without regard for his safety or any concept of failure being a possibility at all
• All these attempts fail, without exception, because he's a bloody pigeon
• Pigeon will his failures as such
• On success, he may behave as a normal companion, following directions as usual
