Armour

Anyone can put on a suit of armor or strap a Shield to an arm. But If you wear armor that you lack proficiency with, you have disadvantage on any ability check, saving throw, or Attack roll that involves Strength or Dexterity, and you can’t cast Spells.

Light Armour

Made from supple and thin materials, Light Armor favors agile adventurers since it offers some Protection without sacrificing mobility. If you wear Light Armor, you add your Dexterity modifier to the base number from your armor type to determine your Armor Class. It takes a full minute to put on or take off.

Gambeson (11 + Dex mod AC): 13lb, 5gp. Wearing this gives you disadvantage on Stealth rolls. Padded Armor consists of quilted layers of cloth and batting, used to wear under other armour to protect the skin from the pinch of metal plates.

Leather Jerkin (11 + Dex mod AC): 8lb, 10gp. The Breastplate and shoulder protectors of this armor are made of leather that has been stiffened by being boiled in oil. The rest of the armor is made of softer and more flexible materials.

Studded Leather (12 + Dex mod AC): 11lb, 45gp. Made very much like standard leather, but with a criss-cross of metal studs and reinforcing rivets that protect the leather.

Medium Armour

Medium Armor offers more Protection than Light Armor, but it also impairs Movement more. If you wear Medium Armor, you add your Dexterity modifier, to a maximum of +2, to the base number from your armor type to determine your Armor Class. Takes 5 minutes to put on, and a minute to take off.

Hide (12 + Dex mod [max 2] AC): 12lb, 10gp. This crude armor consists of thick furs and pelts. It is commonly worn by Barbarian tribes, evil humanoids, and other folk who lack access to the tools and materials needed to create better armor.

Hauberk (13 + Dex mod [max 2] AC): 30lb, 60gp. A long sleeve shirt of chainmail at mid-thigh length and worn over the top of a Leather Jerkin to prevent pinching. This armour offers excellent protection against weapon attacks while keeping a low profile both socially and audibly.

Lamellar (14 + Dex mod [max 2] AC): 20lb, 200gp. This armor consists of a fitted rectangular plates of hardened leather laced into horizontal rows. An excellent protection but difficult to be agile while wearing. Disadvantage on Stealth checks

Brigandine (15 + Dex mod [max 2] AC): 40lb, 450gp. A sturdy coat of heavy flexible leather, covered in metal studs and reinforcing rivets to protect the leather, as well as lightweight and flexible metal plates over the sternum and shoulders that don’t impact flexibility. Disadvantage on Stealth checks

Heavy Armour

Of all the armor categories, Heavy Armor offers the best Protection, but usually at a great cost for the custom fitting required. Luckily each stage of Heavy Armour can be upgrade from lower Heavy Armours, usually by the refinement of pieces and addition of new protective elements. Heavy Armor doesn’t let you add your Dexterity modifier to your Armor Class, but it also doesn’t penalize you if your Dexterity modifier is negative. They all give disadvantage on Stealth checks, and if you don’t have the minimum strength score requirement they reduce your speed by 10ft. Takes a full 10 minutes to put on, and 5 minutes to take off.

Cuirass (16 AC): 30lb, 75gp. A complete helm, breastplate, and backplate with straps fitted to your exact form and worn over the top of a Gambeson. While the limbs are more free to move, the weight of the plates is still a significant burden on the user. Strength 13 required
