Mist-Touched (Reborn)

At times, the Black Mist reaches across the seas - and hungering spirits of the dead go with it. The Harrowing strikes most frequently in Bilgewater, but the Black Mist has been known to strike all across the known world. Those slain by the spirits during the Harrowing are damned, their souls dragged back to the Shadow Isles when the Black Mist retreats. While there are many whose lives have come to an end as a result of a Harrowing, the Black Mist brings life to a select few. If the body of someone who is slain during a Harrowing isn't destroyed, there's a chance that a soul - either the original or another - may take refuge and reanimate the body as a Mist-Touched.
Those that are reborn in this matter are nearly indistinguishable from others. Physically, they retain the bodies of the host regardless of what soul entered the body, with some showing a green glint in their eyes reminiscent of the Black Mist. Those with more sensitivity to magic may also pick up the stench of necromancy that lingers around them, another reminder of their death.

Ancestral Legacy. When creating a Mist-Touched character, choose another race to serve as the base and keep the following elements of that race: creature size and any climbing, flying, or swimming speed you gained from it. Additionally, you gain proficiency in one skills of your choice.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness as shades of gray.
Deathless Nature. You have escaped death, a fact represented by the following benefits:
  • You have advantage on saving throws against disease and being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison damage.
  • You have advantage on death saving throws.
  • You don't need to eat, drink, or breathe.
  • You don't need to sleep, and magic can't put you to sleep. Instead, you rest in an inactive, motionless state, during which you retain consciousness for 4 hours a day. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
Knowledge from a Past Life. You temporarily remember glimpses of the past, perhaps faded memories from ages ago or a previous life. When you make an ability check that uses a skill, you can roll a d6 immediately after seeing the number on the d20 and add the number on the d6 to the check. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Back from the Dead

The magic that sustains the Mist-Touched is a mystery. Most are born as the last tides of a Harrowing leave an area, suggesting that some force of the Shadow Isles deemed them worthy of a second chance. Those that are brought back by the mist are awakened, sometimes showing the scars of their death, with a terrible sense of emptiness. This rough transition affects people differently with some succumbing to anger or depression and others hoping to use their second chance to brighten the world.
Mist-Touched suffer from some manner of discontinuity, an interruption of their lives or physical state that their minds are ill equipped to deal with. Their memories of events before this interruption are often vague or absent. Occasionally, the most unexpected experiences might cause sensations or visions of the past to come rushing back.
