Session 17 - 6/26/2020

General Summary

Olmis (the 10th month) 1, 1610 - Back to the downed Quark and to Elder Hall in the Bescartha Ruins

  At the Quark's crash site with Lee Spans and Janadine Travis the PCs hunker down for an oncoming storm. Teddy collects firewood and places it under the ramp for cover. Egon helps unload the wagon and the spare parts.   An hour passes and the PCs take a short rest as the storm blows over. Lee has determined that the kobolds have taken some non-essential parts - nothing that will hinder him too badly from getting the Quark back to New Bethford. But their recovery would speed its complete set of repairs. They decide to use the rest of the day to scout the ruins and to go to the Ruins of Elder Hall where Sigmund Vaylen, III fallen allies are.   They do a full pass around the ruins... They are sea-side and observe the breakwater - it is missing in some places but for the most part protects what remains of the harbor. The shore remains in relatively good shape with a flagstone frontage. All the wood docks and pilings are gone, but one can envision a respectable harbor that was once here.   The PCs also see the usual pattern of ruined crumbling buildings and the bases of a great many windmill towers. However there is one section of town where all the ruins are "missing" and further investigation shows recent mounds of dirt, crude tools, and all the ruins knocked down.. there seems to be a slight central mound.   Inside the city, they head straight for the Elder Hall ruins... Shadow spots several buildings where Kobold footprints converge and tunnels that appear to go underground.   Beneath the Elder halls, the fallen companions are wrapped up in a bedroll. Egon finds a secret compartment (guided by the Kelmonite ring) that contains a magical cone that can throw Confusion upon a Cyrlok three times per day, and three scrolls each containing a spell (Shatter, ). They also slide the platform with the translucent chest over the watery chest and a new chest solidifies - inside is the complete Adje Kada (the indexed wisdom of the Kelmonites) and accouterments for establishing new elders (silver cup and gold necklace with water-drop pendant) and two healing potions.   Egon goes through the Elder ritual on himself and everybody else in the party. it seems an empty gesture - but who knows.   They are attacked by stone statues as they attempt to enter into a stone door adjacent to the building. Their strikes threaten to turn their target into stone! They take a few trinkets (candelabra (10gp), necklace (5gp) carved wooden animals, etc.) but otherwise leave the tombs undisturbed.   The PCs return to the Quark and bury Sigmund's fallen companions next to Felpip's grave. Teddy helps Lee with handing him tools and they have a good conversation. Dinner is had and then rest.   They take a long rest.  

Olmis (the 10th month) 2, 1610 - Kobolds and the Drainage Tunnels under the Bescartha Ruins

The PCs select a structure that has a dug tunnel going down at about a 45-degree angle - this feature seems pretty common and is often a nexus of Kobold tracks.   Shadow sneaks down the tunnel. It empties into man-made sewers/run-off drains. Shadow spies a napping band of lowly kobolds (one has wings) resting near. Shadow carefully creeps back up. Back on the surface, adjacent to the tunnel, the PCs discuss their plans for the dried wood that was brought. They hope to "smoke out" the Kobolds. They build a bonfire in the hole and watch the smoke waft up into the sky instead of going down the hole. After a few minutes of debate, they dowse the bonfire and open the hole back up - reasonably certain that the desired effect was not accomplished.   As they re-enter the hole as a group (except Wyd and Teddy?) The Kobolds are there, alert, and in greater number and aware of the PCs. Combat ensues and the PCs are victorious.
