Session 23 - Spit, Drool, Orogs and Rescue!

The move to rescue the prisoners seeing only on Ogre (Drool) and hearing another one (Spit). Drool is dispatched in the surprise round by a salvo of sneak attach arrows and spells. Spit moves to engage as the PCs advance. Suddenly a trio of Orogs burst from a side door and the PCs take some early big hits.
The PCs are able to fall back and regroup and eventually kill two Oorgs, drive off the third, contain Spit with Tasha's Hideous Laughter (Olivine) and then Command (Luke) to get him to lock himself in one of the cells. He gets distracted by the desire for a "poisoner snack" but Lane gets the ogre back on focus with the Moonbeam spell.

Bruldenthar Male, Dwarf, Sage - Harper, Analytical Scholar, member of the Mirabar Delegation

Bruldenthar explains that they were:

a) ambushed by Earth Cultists and nearly all the guards killed

b) Taken across the Desarin river (in the Sumbers) by river Pirates who where paid with his looted tomes as by the earth cultists.

c) After crossing the river they were attacked by flying vulture riders who captured Desyana Noravel (delegate, human noble, Lords Alliance) as fast as they came the vulture riders fled with their captive

d) After the left, the earth cultists continued on to the Sacred Stone Monastery

e) There he was enslaved and forced to work in the mines (although no ore was being collected/found)

f) Lastly he learned from overhearing the Orog leader (Jurth who was killed by the PCs) say the two other delegates, a shield dwarf named Rhundorth and a Moon Elf named Teresiel, where taken "deeper" below the mines.

Knack found 90 gp and 40ep in the Ogre/Orog guard room.
The prisoners said that over the last 30 days the Ogres ate 10 prisoners. At that Lane put the Moonbeam on the ogre finishing of Spit.
Finnian Stoneson makes a point to speak with Lane and gives his thanks for the rescue. They exchange travel blessings.
The PCs escort the freed people who gather up supplies, weapons and gear. The exit into the Sumber Hills and camp for the night. The weather turns biter cold with the danger of frostbite looming. A fire is built in a obscured horse-show gully and Lane casts Leomund's Tiny hut for 9 of the most fragile survivors.
In the morning - the survivors give their final thanks to the group and set out for Red Larch. The PCs return to the Monastery to ensure they missed nothing.
