Lla Proxy

God... not now. Get out of here. Don't let him see you. I SAID, "OUT...!"
...Where are you going? We have so much to discuss. Your debt, and your daughter, for instance.
-Erik Yeats, Lla Proxy who famously believed himself to be working against the Din of the Deeps

Basic Information

Anatomy

Proxies appear at all levels, even to advanced medical equipment, to be a male member of a humanoid species. However, they are in fact artificial intelligences which can be directly controlled by a Lla operator on Llaja.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Proxies are equipped with advanced imaging suites, giving them the ability to see in low- or even zero light conditions.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

So-called "outed" Proxies have begun forming their own communities, especially within the ranks of Hasedar Forgeworks. These communities are virtually indistinguishable from humanoid communities, in a sad testament to their lifelike motivations and needs.

Common Taboos

Proxies take great care to protect their identity as they perform their assigned duties. Once revealed as a Proxy, a unit is chastised by greater society as a mole loyal to an evil organization, while also being abandoned as useless by the criminal Din. Most outed Proxies offer themselves to the Din for reprocessing and recycling, or commit suicide in a more defiant, humanoid manner, such as by drowning or leaping from heights. Recently, the Din-owned megacorporation Hasedar Forgeworks has begun repatriating outed Proxies by providing them above-board jobs and a supportive community of fellows.

History

Proxies were first created by the Lla before the Great War, but were not meant to hide among other populations until the latter part of the Great War. True artificial intelligence was created by the Lla in order to enable a Proxy to easily react even when his Lla operator was away from his station, and to give greater realism and consistency to the Proxy's behavior.

It is whispered that female-appearing Proxies exist as bootlegged technology created by organizations other than the male-dominated Din of the Deeps, but if this is true, they are likely rare, and remain hidden from the general population.

Common Myths and Legends

Proxies, having a typically grim sense of humor, often joke about a great savior to artificial intelligence that will revolutionize the galaxy or, in more offensive versions, destroy all non-artificial life. Some humanoid scholars have taken these jokes seriously, as a sort of proto-myth or religious prophesy. Proxies discredit this line of thought, and insist the legends are purely a running joke.
