Concerning Class.....

Careers

Hold on a sec! Wasn't this section supposed to be all about classes?! Not today!   In the classic realm of TTRPGs, "class" used to be the term tossed around for the various archetypes of characters – your fighters, paladins, wizards, rogues, artificers, and so on.   But here in Ávra, we've flipped the script. Unlike traditional setups where your class dictated specific buffs, debuffs, and such based on your initial choice, Ávra does things differently.   In our world, we call them 'careers', and they're much more intertwined with your lore, your character's self-perception, and your future evolution than your starting stats, abilities, or niche. To fully wrap your head around careers, it's crucial to understand how progression works in Ávra. Take a moment to dive into Character Progression  before you continue.   Your career should already be embedded in your character's lore, determining what kinds of abilities you'll unlock as you progress. While our system allows your character to attempt almost any action, the DM can significantly hinder their ability to succeed if it's not aligned with their backstory. For instance, if your character is a non-magical baker attempting to summon a firebolt, the DM might set a challenging roll, like "Roll 2 d20, both must be natural 20 to perform the feat." Since every being in Ávra is linked to Aura, the potential is there, but the character's lack of magical proficiency requires a hefty dose of improbability upheld through gameplay for the sake of lore.   In essence, our baker in the example above would excel at baking, sales, handling money, and buying goods – all actions that come with easier skill checks and a higher chance of acquiring and upgrading skills. Keeping your chosen career in mind during actions is not just strategic for gameplay but also contributes to the lore woven into your character's story.
Quick Tip: Remember that performing actions out of character, or not tied to your lore/career, will severly hinder your character progression, as well as your characters ability to perform actions.
