Firmament Syphon

A device created in Dunnywild used to syphon and store Aura from what is left of the Firmament. This process corrupts the Aura, and it must be distilled and purified before usage. The purified Aura can then be consumed to grant temporary magical abilities to the user. The reliance on this 'designer magic' can cause addiction and is known to degrade ones soul in heavy usage. Users of this technology end up with soul degradation so irreparable that demonic entities are able to possess them without requiring a pact with the victim first. Thus, users of this magical technology are usually killed as a mercy before they reach a certain threshold of no return. Created generations ago by the greatest scientific minds in Dunnywild, the Syphon was originally created to combine the power of Dunnywild's great scientific advancements and the incredible magical properties of the Reliquary. The researchers eventually learned that the Reliquary was a tether between The World and what was left of the Firmament in the heavens above.
They were able to test exposure to The Aura passing through this tether on subjects and realized that it granted the subjects temporary powers. These tests came at great cost, as all subjects tested eventually died from exposure to the unrefined Aura, as the process of extracting it from the Firmament corrupted it. Eventually, a process to refine the Aura was deduced and the users life span before corrupted death was greatly extended. Along with the method to refine, the method to store was also crafted, and all three technologies (extraction, refinement, storage) were combined into the technology that is now known as the Firmament Syphon.
This technology is a closely guarded secret of the Dunnywild Kingdom, and only known to a select few. It is mostly used for military purposes. The Dunnywild military utilizes the refined Aura to enhance special forces of soldiers, who are utilized on highly specialized and classified missions for the Dunnywild Kingdom.
It is not currently known what the effects of the machine are having on the Firmament, or if tapping into the tether is affecting the natural flow of the Firmamental Aura into Ávra.
