This tome of knowledge you are reading right now is the Magical Tome known as "The World Compendium", a sum of all knowledge that the famed explorer and scholar Pat the Cat has compiled on his travels. This magical book is linked to all other 'copies' of the book in existence in The World, which self update as Pat the Cat adds to his 'original' copy of The Compendium.
It is an enchanted book and all copies are technically the same book. The "original" in Pat's possession is enchanted to be able to occupy multiple instances in time and space, and as such copies are not linked so much as they are the same book existing multiple times.
As such, there are many strange properties the book has. If two copies of the book were to touch, they would conjoin their space and time and effectively meld into a single paradox free copy of the book, with the 'younger' copy being absorbed into the 'older' copy, as it has a stronger attunement to the 'original' instance of the book and thus a stronger tether to its place in space and time. These tethers of space time also prevent a feedback paradox if a copy is destroyed, as this will not affect any other copies, as the destruction severs its connection to space time and thus its tether breaks before a paradox feedback loop can be created.
The only way to truly destroy all copies is to render the master copy destroyed. Although it would seem Pat carries the book on him at all times, and thus is vulnerable, this is only a projection of the original book and a quill. The original tome and quill are kept in a vault known only to Pat, and his projection is only able to be controlled by him. Pats manipulation of the projection is remotely translated to the original compendium and quill in the vault via a remote movement spell cast on the projection. With this complex amalgamation of spells and enchantments, Pat has been able to sell copies of his Compendium far and wide and is a passive added source of income for any groups he travels with.
Attributes
○ The enchanted copy carried by Pat can only be written in by Pat the Cat; if anyone else tries to utilize the book and quill, since they are not linked to the true copy in the vault, it simply will not move and for all intents is like stone.
○ Sold copies of the book can not be written in, as they have all the same enchantments that the copy in the vault has. If someone tries to write in their copy of the book, the ink will burn as it touches the paper and can cause the user severe burns, and as such a warning is included in the beginning pages.
○ Whenever Pat has to add pages to the book, he brings in a trusted Tomesmith to bind new pages in the vault. No one knows which Tomesmith he uses to do this. When the page binding is finalized, these pages magically grow forth in all copies of the book.
○ No one is sure how Pat was able to enchant the book as he did, as Pat has no natural magical talents of his own other than basic childrens' tricks and charms. This is another trade secret Pat keeps to himself.
