The Geopolitical situation as of 2010

The Atlantean Empire empire is now the dominant nation on earth. The nations of the world are still recovering. For many countries the Atlantean peacekeeping force is the only thing keeping law and order while the rebuilding effort is ongoing. some nations are actively seeking to join the Empire, either outright or as vassal states.
Some parts of the world have been conquered by supervillians carving out their own kingdoms, some of these may become legitimate nations but most are nothing more than warlords trying to grab a piece of the pie while the getting is good.
The Atlantean army takes out those warlords that there is significant evidence of gross human rights violations against. For the others that the army cannot touch without triggering an international incident they turn to Omega.

North America

The States

The States of America have largely reformed their individual state governments and are in the process discussing the reformation of the United States, however there is some wish to use the opportunity to make changes to how the Federal Government will be run. Atlantean peacekeeping troops are a common and largely welcome sight within the States as many of them are still unable to adequately police themselves.
Texas is pushing for permanent Independence.
Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut are petitioning to join the Atlantean Empire and have received more direct assistance from the Empire than any other state except New York.
Star City and New York City are completely under Atlantean rule.

Canada

Canada was not hit as hard as most of the developed world, due in no small part to it's relatively low population density. The Government is functional and the country has an effective police force. They still rely on Alpha Force for dealing with supervillian threats.
The Canadian view of the States to their south is one of wariness, they see the states as a lawless place.
The Canadian Government counts the Atlantean Empire as an ally.

Mexico

Mexico weathered the occupation remarkably well, the Mexican government survived in hiding and smoothly resumed power. They have been eager to sign treaties with Atlantis and accepted help dealing with organised crime and the immigration problems from the States.

South America

Maya

Once the nations of Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru. Maya is a nation ruled by group of supervillains each taking their names from Ancient Mayan gods. Their leader is Kukulkan. Life in Maya is hard but orderly, the nation being formed into a Theocratic one, everything goes to the church and the supervillians are the gods of that church.

Amazonia

The amazon rain forest is a no go zone, no-one goes in, on-one comes out. Rumour has it that a powerful plant based supervilllian retreated there during the occupation.

Brazil

Brazil has flourished following the Liberation, it has absorbed Paraguay, Uraguay and Argentina. Unlike many other nations Brazil did not suffer as much under the V'sori and can now be counted as one of the most powerful nations on the planet. Their current focus is their ideological differences with Maya and their opposition of anything that looks like Atlantis reaching for more power.

Europe

Western Europe

Europe was hit hard by the V'sori invasion, most of the capitol cities were flattened and all the leadership decimated. Now those nations are slowly rebuilding themselves. France has been making the fastest progress as they have always recovered well from disaster. England has fallen back on the monarchy, as have many of the other nations. The Western European nations have reestablished the United Nations to which the Atlantean Empire is a reluctant member.

Eastern Europe

Eastern Europe and Russia were fragmented, any semblance of government broke down following the V'sori invasion. What exsists now is a fragmented array of kingdoms and city states ruled over by superpowered dictators (Some benevolent but most not)

Asia, Africa and the Middle East

The true destruction of the V'sori was reserved for these continents, populations were enslaved, exterminated and the land stripmined for any valuable resources. the one saving grace is the vast hydroponics farms constructed across south africa, just mile upon mile of food production all producing food intended to be shipped offworld to feed the V'sori military.
