High Lord Asterion Kóros

Appearance

High Lord Asterion Kóros is a broad an imposing figure, with pale pearl white eyes and majestic blue robes. His face remains ever stoic, with his emotions having to be read only by the movement of his dark brows, while his booming voice fills any room and claims attention in any conversation.   People often hear Asterion before they see him, for his very steps slam against the ground like the hammering of an anvil - clearly a choice to warn others of his arrival, seeing as he is capable of flying at will and making no noise at all.

Personality

Those who have only seen Asterion from afar would know him only as a terrifyingly powerful lord of magic, occasionally catching him flying high above and casting mighty spells or commanding mighty armies. To the common folk, he is a distant leader who speaks little and rules with strength.   To those who know him as a colleague or ally he is a prideful man who suffers no fools and demands respect, often using his reputation and his voice to silence any debate against him.   But to his few friends and fewer apprentices, he is a man who is endlessly insightful when speaking of magic, and obnoxiously dense when speaking of people - he often struggles to read the emotions of others, and relies on his naturally intimidating aura to prevent scrutiny into his lack of true charisma.

Abilities

Lord Kóros is famous in Olsíri for inventing and mastering the field of Graviturgy - magic that specialises in altering the weights and densities of people and objects. With it, he can make a mouse the weight of an elephant, or a giant lighter than a feather, or even create points of intense pressure that sucks in everything around them.   Of course, in order to have the skills needed to invent an entirely new field of magic, Asterion also has had to develop an incredible grasp of all forms of spellcasting, such that he is an archmage with few equals across the entire world.

History

Prodigy

Born to a pair of mages in the City of Magic, Asterion was already well primed to become a powerful and respected individual. But the true extent of his gifts became apparent early in his life, as even as a toddler he was able to learn cantrips levels simply by observing his parents casting them around their home. They enrolled him first at The Stardust Academy so that he could learn all there is of the mundane while tutoring him in magic themselves.   By the time he was transferred to The Octagon for true magical studies he was 14 years old and already more knowledgeable in the fields of mathematics and physics than most professors. At The Octagon he began to learn magic from the greatest masters and teachers the world has to offer, quickly eclipsing most others there and gaining a reputation for being a one in a generation talent.

The Ninth School

Perhaps the greatest achievement by any mage in history, Asterion spent just over two decades researching, creating, and mastering an offshoot of Transmutation that specialised in manipulating the gravity of the world. There remain a few quiet detractors that maintain Graviturgy remains still within the school of Transmutation (as Blood Magic does for Necromancy), but the extreme and specific nature of the many spells Asterion crafted has been proven beyond most doubt that Graviturgy stands alone.   Parades were held in his honour and he became a household name across all of Olsíri, and a legend amongst the educated across the entired country.

Lord of Olsíri

He has spent every year following his great work as one of the two Consuls of Tísma, working to protect the region and leading the politics of Òsa as a whole. Though his greatest critics all point to the fact he often seems tunnelvisioned on his home city, focusing the majority of his efforts only on Olsíri despite being one of the major leaders of the entire country. And even within Olsíri he is absent from most Senate meetings, allowing the arrogant (and oft foolish) senators to do whatever they wish, sending his familiar only to observe. Belief holds he simply is not all that interested in politics, or busy with continuing to research Graviturgy, but the truth paints a more noble picture.

A Secret War

Together with High Lord Protagoras and a few select allies, Asterion has spent many years engaged in a secret war against secret foes, attempting to silently deal with a faction of shadowy mages in order to prevent mass panic across The Varolian. In recent years he has slowly begun reaching out for and accepting help, despite a strong desire to continue handling nearly everything alone.

Against The Menagerie

In addition to his quiet battles, Asterion has been a vital aid in The Exotics' fight against Fearghal of The Menagerie, rallying an army on multiple occassions to fight against the faction who publicly sought to bring great upheaval to the world, quite possibly because of the manipulations of the hidden foes he has been dealing with all this time.

The Hurricane

It was just before the final battle against The Menagerie when enemies broke into famed Úrlos Palace and damaged the weather machine that controls the climate around Olsíri, summoning a hurricane to destroy the city. Asterion left the war to save The Capital and the million people who lived there, calling forth all of his power to contain the storm before it destroyed everything.   His absence from the battlefield was felt by all once the fighting began, and the Senate of Tísma decided to retaliate against the supposed culprits before he could prevent their rash actions, leading to a brief attack against the city of Katarn that The Exotics thankfully ended before it could grow into full on civil war.

Retrieval of Power

In the time since The Menagerie was defeated, Asterion has been seeking out more of his shadowy foes while getting help in finding the many magical items stolen from The Castle in the Sky and routing out traitors to his home.
