Appearance
With skin that ranges from the palest peach to deepest brown, humans are a species with appearances that can vary greatly not just within a culture, but within a single town or village; all manner of hairstyles, eye colours, builds, and clothing choices can be seen even in tiny sample sizes. Despite all the variety, and within the Republic at least, the most commonly seen look is a person with olive or dark skin, curly black hair, and brown eyes. Height and build too can range greatly, from short and thin to tall and broad.
Description
Generalists
Many species can adapt to their environment or develop a wide variety of skills; none seem to do so better than humans. You are as likely to find a human mining away with some dwarves as you are to hear them singing from the treetops with elves. Humans seem to have a great talent at and inclination to live anywhere they please, adventuring to strange places and founding settlments as they go.
City-Builders
"Humanity has the strongest herd mentality I've ever seen from an 'intelligent' species. All well and good when they dedicate to working together, but it turns into a bloodbath when anything goes wrong; two elves or dragonborn might cause a fight between individuals, while two humans at odds inevitably drag in all others around them." - Telío Alori
Very few sapient creatures loath company as a whole, as all hearts cry out for companionship and safety in numbers. Humans have a social need that surpases many other species, apparent when they construct towering cities and road networks connecting the towns spread out across The Varolian. Many human settlements have thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of inhabitants, with some of their largest cities housing upwards of a full million people. The only place that could hope to compete would be the Dwarven Holy City of Rithja, which holds a significant portion of the entire continent's Dwarven population.
Senators and Kings
Not quite as organised as the Triton below the waves, Humans as a whole still adore their hierarchies and their empires. Every town, faction, and region has a list of leaders and suborinates, with the
Immortals of Ósa at the top of the pyramid (in The Republic at least), and slaves at the bottom. Between their need to populate cities and their love of social order, it is small wonder that Humans make up the vast majority of The Republic and Praelos both.
Religion & Politics
The Pantheon
Most Humans in The Varolian worship all of the
The Pantheon, baring perhaps
Fidain, for his worship is outlawed in The Republic at least. Many will have their own favourite Gods depending on vocation and culture, but generally Gods of civilisation and protection, such as
Olsír,
Patír, and
Talsia are most widely adored.
In
Praelos specifically,
Kanzu is venerated most highly, for theirs is a warrior culture that abhors magicians.
Republic of Ósa
As mentioned, Humans are the most common species in The Republic, and as such form the majority of its senators, mages, warriors, and citizens. They have the greatest amount of religious and political freedom, and can find themselves at home in any major settlement without issue.
Kingdom of Praelos
Awkwardly, Humans also make up a majority of the population of Praelos, highlighting a level of tribalism that reaches within the species to have it battle itself. But much of their status in Ósa applies in Praelos as well - they tend to make up both the common folk and the leaders of society, along with every role in between.
