Odessa Deo
Appearance
Where once was dressed a Hobgoblin in scraps, now stands a refined figure. Standing tall in darkened leathers, dark bronze plates creating a pauldron on the right arm and plates covering the humerus whilst becoming a full gauntlet at the right hand; along with greaves, sabatons, and knee-guards down below. Each greave and the gauntlet, as well as the pauldron, marked with an Olsiri star embossment. Their left arm is uncovered by armour. Instead a long glove made of dark and faint purple cloth comes up to under their armour, the cloth trimmed with arcane symbols and covered almost completely on the forearm by a leather bracer, a quill strapped to the exterior of it. Tied by a thin gold and silver chain wrapped around the bracer is a pearlescent sapphire eye medallion. The figure's neck is surrounded by thick dark fur, rimming the collar and building into a cloth hood with dark bronze chainmail woven onto the outer side, the hood edge tipped with dark bronze plates to weigh it down and stop it from revealing their features without warning. Thin dark and faint purple cloths descending from under their arms to the sides of their waist, tucked behind a dark leather belt before growing wider below it, flanking their legs almost entirely. The cloth ordained with many sparkling stars from their creation on high before growing larger below, ending at the base of the cloth as singular large Olsiri stars. The rear of the cloth covered by darkened leather tassets to ensure no dirt coats the cloth when the wearer is sitting. Hanging from the left side of their waist are four small bronze chains, connected to a large tome left dangling, a large celestite gem placed into the front cover. From the right of their waist hangs an ornate gladius, rarely used but possessed all the same, just in case. Tied to the right humerus, just visible from below the pauldron, are a collection of thin needle-like darts, ready to be grabbed and thrown at a moment's notice. A lightly curved dagger strapped to their torso, just to the side of their left arm, equally ready to be grabbed but instead by the right hand, instead of the darts grabbed by the left. In their dominant right hand is ever held a long glaive, the butt of which is adorned by a large ice-blue crystal, formerly red in nature. The weapon seemingly lighter than air itself as it's handled effortlessly despite its size. The only piece of themselves to denote their true nature beneath their almost zealotic clothing to the God of Magic is what little is visible of their visage beneath the hood and behind the fur of a white skull, icy-blue beads from the depths denote their 'eyes', little more than magical dots with a backdrop of purple light filling the sockets. Ashen marks caress their skinless cheekbones, the magical symbology crossing above their teeth and below to their chin, unseen continuations up to atop their skull and across their skeletal body under their clothes. When disguised Odessa is a silvery-grey, near blue skinned Hobgoblin with sharp amber-red eyes within her surprisingly chiselled features. Her back length hair a black with dark red highlights amongst it that rests mostly down the right side of her head. Her body is lean and toned, no-longer adorned with scars after a thorough amount of healing. Although her left arm is necrotic and dead in appearance. Along with her natural features her face is covered in black, coal-like face-paint to accentuate her natural facial features. With that she has multiple piercings, three square rings in the helix of her pointed ear and a five-point star piercing in her ear lobe, all on her left ear. She also has a ring pierced through the columella of her nose and through the centre of her lower lip.Personality
Speaking with extreme candour at all times, Odessa comes across to some as rude or standoffish, but to others as refreshingly direct and without illusions. She has a strong ego, though tends to embellish and brag somewhat less often than other mages of her calibre. She also has a habit of showing around the same amount of respect (that is to say, little) to those of any station, above or below, and commonly slings insults to those she believes are acting foolishly. Finally, despite her direct nature and avoidance of platitudes, she seems to have a generous heart, often making gifts for those around her. What differentiates her strongly from others, arguably including those that taught her, is the extreme belief that the only reason to gain power and knowledge is to better benefit those without it. This is often what brings her at odds with other mages who would prefer to remain in their own spheres and without care for anything beyond them. Included in this difference is the belief that the knowledge of magic should both be accessible to everyone and restricted to those that would use it for the priorly given reasons, this may be why she holds off from providing her own personal knowledge but offers to help guide those willing to learn along the right paths.Abilities
With a background in theology, history, and extensive arcana it’s little surprise that Odessa has advanced as rapidly as she has. It helps to also have an innate understanding of magicka bordering an Elf’s. With how she changes and modifies her spells, it can be a little hard to know exactly what it is she’s doing. Although when she was alive she was known for using blood magic, which she can no-longer do. What is known is that she is incredibly well versed in destruction and combat magics, as well as plenty of support magics. Her undead nature brings with it the idea that she’s focusing a lot on necromancy in current days as well. It is also known that she has some manner of teleportation magic as she seems to rapidly travel the region on a regular basis. In an oddity for wizardry, she’s also been shown to be capable of casting divine magics, as before she became undead she openly healed herself with magics alone. With her known dedication to Olsir it’s rumoured she received some of these gifts from the God herself.History
Pre-Exotics
A roving band of goblinoids travelled too close to the Sanctuary, the guardians making short of the group with their magics, there was a reason the Sanctuary’s surrounding terrain was battered and scorched after all. In the remnants of the band, surrounded by bodies, was a child, a child that was taken in by the scholars of To Ieró tis Gnósis. An upbringing of study and lessons, likely very different from what a Hobgoblin child would normally have, but Odessa was not a normal Hobgoblin child. Odessa, meaning ‘wrath’ or ‘wrathful’, a name given based upon her blood heritage. She found herself surprisingly skilled in all things studious, her mind sharp and her memory strong. She quickly took to the studies partially forced upon her by the scholars in the Sanctuary, but it was when a particular guardian showed her the simple Light spell and she changed it’s form within his grip her hidden skills were noted. The scholars put more of a focus on the arcane in her studies, gauging her abilities with it, to which there was now little surprise when she excelled in the field. The first spell she was formally taught was Mage Hand, a fairly simple spell, which was subject to her mind’s skills and morphed into another spell. Neither she, nor her tutors, realised the spell’s change until a short time later. After the lesson she snuck off to borrow some of the more restricted books, she was of course caught in the act and was to be subject to the normal punishment, a brief whacking with the librarian’s cane, but for once it never connected as her Mage Hand caught the cane before it impacted, an accidental Shield spell. That was the first of many times she truly ‘broke’ magic, but Odessa’s proudest event with magic was accidentally summoning a familiar. She was attempting to shift her Mage Hand Shield to be a constant, permanently active spell when her attention was taken by a little bird that flew up to and rested on her windowsill, when she returned her attention to her Mage Hand what was before her was not a hand at all but instead a near-pure white bird. When her lecturer at the time took notice of the bird, he proclaimed it clear proof of her skills, her natural aptitude with magic. The bird itself was given that as a name. Aptitude, Ikanótita, Ika. Much like many, there soon came a time Odessa wished to know more of her people, a simple request in a place such as the Sanctuary with it’s many sources of knowledge. What she found was a martial history, a race skilled in brutal, efficient warfare. Something clicked then, perhaps it was a natural thing, perhaps it was a desire to acknowledge her heritage, but at that time Odessa found a new goal for herself. In the weeks following her time learning of her people, she spent far more time reading about weapons, armour, tactics, warfare. This was when she found a problem, the mind was willing but the body less-so, too much time reading and learning had made her some-what physically weak, but once again the knowledge surrounding her helped. In the terrain surrounding the Sanctuary she made a training course, one made to have her grow fitter, faster, and stronger. It took longer than she liked to admit but eventually she found herself growing into the physique described of her race, perhaps with a direction more towards being lean than muscular due to the course she had made for herself. Next, came weapons, she knew well she’d only learn so much against whatever target dummy she created but it was a good start. Basing it on smithing instructions, fashioned a make-shift sword with a stick and weighted ‘appropriately’ with stones, this is what she used to grow familiar with the idea of weaponry. It was also by this point the scholar’s took interest in her choice of activities. They did not, however, have the intention to have her stop, she was learning and that alone was to be rewarded, every day she was learning new knowledge on new subjects, expanding her skills. After a short-sword equivalent, she fashioned for herself a weapon with longer reach, knowing herself to be frailer than the average warrior she thought it best to at least try a weapon with greater reach. This is where her form made things difficult yet again, her speed meant nothing if she could not carry the weapon, she knew she would never be great with it but knowledge was knowledge and she was determined to learn how to use it, even if not very well. Many weapons were tried, plenty thrown away. Her make-shift axe and greatswords, for example, proved far too heavy for her to wield properly. During this time she did not grow lax in her other studies either, she focused her time not on spells themselves but instead how they are made, which only allowed her capabilities in modifying them to grow. After a long while, Odessa came to the somewhat obvious conclusion that she would not learn everything within the Sanctuary. She grappled with the choice on whether to stay or not, with a heavy heart eventually deciding to leave. With some basic supplies, her make-shift sword and spellbook, and some reading materials, she said her goodbye to the scholars and guardians of To Ieró tis Gnósis and left it’s safe walls. Upon suggestion of the guardians, she journeyed along the north-western coastline. What she thought would be a nice journey from town to town was anything but, she’d read about what her race was like but she never expected to receive the reactions to her arrival she did. At best, distrust, at worst pure disdain. Miles of distrust, miles of fear for her safety, eventually Odessa started to avoid villages, only entering them when she desperately needed supplies. After a time, however, she reached her proposed destination. Chyreum, the city of change. It was here she found her luck changing, her race actually helping instead of just hindering for once.Assassination Plot
